Aviation Pictures

I love planes and I love flying. I actually used to dream of becoming a pilot when I was a little girl . . . but it's quite expensive

so . . . maybe if I hit the lottery :p

But I was hoping Billy & I could make it to the EAA fly-in this year in Wisconsin. I used to go every year with my dad when I was just knee-high :D :D

Cool thread John:rock:... not sure if helocopters count... :dontknow: ;) :D shot these on deployment...

I fly for a living. I took this picture half way across the Atlantic. A B767 was passing me at 38,000ft with a full moon.

Here's another series of an F-15 breaking up in flight.
Nice pics. I always loved planes. When I was a kid I used to ride to the airportwith my brother and check out the planes. Once we went into the terminal and a pilot brought us into the cockpit and put us in the chairs!:)

BTW I assume that brakup wa s a test?

Nope, no test.

The breakup was a result of corrosion.

Yep. Corrosion of one of the bulkheads. Grounded the entire fleet for weeks. The MC rate went into the toilet for a long time while all the inpsections we completed. Found a few more (more than a few) with cracks in the same area.

I've had two incentive flights in an F-15. Best damn time I have had in my life. Doing a MAX climb on take off is totally awesome! Got to pull 7.5 g's. NOTHING like feeling like you have 1400 pounds sitting in your lap.

Ah, I miss the Air Force...

WWII pics

Here are some pics my grandfather got while he was a dauntaless dive bomber piolt, theses were taken over maui hawaii during the war and have "top secret" "not for public release" on the rear.
maui was home to what many consider the "top gun training" base of it's day.
Puunene navel air staition is still around in some part, if your ever on maui and drive from the airport to wailea and see a bunch of bunkers and concreat buildings near the highway thats the remenents of the base. also the current drag strip and kart racing facility and the national gard are all located within the original base and you can still go into the bunkeres and look around...

Now the whole story ...

While this may look like a gag shot, it is actually a "transport of a transport" necessity. The B -52 was in Beirut, Lebanon undergoing routine fuel tank cleaning. Workmen accidentally damaged the bladder system and had to install the bladders from smaller C -130s temporarily. The plane was flown to nearby McCollough air base where it was lifted upon a barge bound for Tyre on the Mediterranean. Once there it was off -loaded onto the carrier deck for transport to Crete where the appropriate tank bladders were installed. It was then flown back to Beirut. Military cooperation in action.
