Alright. I think I'm going to pick some up as well. I'm wondering though. Is the price of the acetone cheap enough to offset the gains in mileage? Or is it going to cost more to add the acetone and get better mileage or just run straight gas and pay less? Does this make any sense?

Dont buy the Lowes or Home Depot Stuff, its cut with another chemical, because meth labs were using it to make crystal meth...

Goto a paint store, I buy mine from Sherwin Williams, and its about $16/gal there.

I have noticed an average of a 1.5-2mpg increase in town, and 3-4 mpg on highway, as well as smoother running, cleaner exhaust tips, etc..

    Scott.

How come I have this strange feeling that if I showed up and stocked up on acetone I would have a fed following me home? LOL

Well looking at 5 oz per tank and $16 a gallon you would spend 0.64 for each tank. So 1 gallon would give you 25 tanks worth of mix. If you gain 1 MPG you get an extra 25 miles for 64 cents.

    I found this comment also:

Some turbocharged cars run a little bit of this in high boost applications to combat ping/detonation under boost.

Anyone know if this is true?

Mythbusters recently did a show testing different methods of increasing the fuel efficiency of injected and carbereted vehicles. They showed no dicernible increase. They did not test of look for other benefits.

I have been thinking, (dangerous, I know) about all of this talk about Acetone. While reading some of the posts about the way you mix the acetone it struck me that it is probably VERY important to mix the acetone into a small container of gas before putting it into the tank on the vehicle.

    Here's the thing:
    1. Acetone is HIGHLY evaporative, that's why it is an additive in things that need to dry quickly.

    2. 10 fl oz. is not much.

    3. The filler tube on a vehicle is long and has a fairly large diameter.

With these things in mind, picture pouring 10 measly ounces of fluid into the filler tube. It will spread out over the diameter and length of the tube making more surface area. More surface area = more evaporation! What little of the acetone that is left by the time it actually hits the gas in the tank might make very little difference at all!

Maybe I am over-thinking this, I have been accused of that in the past, but I think pre-mixing before you put it in the vehicle could make a significant difference.

    ACETONE use with gasoline

I would suggest before anyone tries mixing acetone to read the report at the site below:

    http://www.pureenergysystems.com/news/2005/03/17/6900069_Acetone/

This will explain how acetone works and why, and most importantly, how to use it. The bottomline is, used properly, it is better than ethanol, but it is not foolproof.

If you pay $15 a gallon for it, and use six ounces everytime you add 20 gallons of fuel to your truck, the resultant cost is less than $1.00 per tank. In addition to improving your miles per gallon to a varying degree, again if used properly, it will enhance the combustion process which will generate less contaminants impacting your oil and exhaust system.

Remember the one caveat of acetone is that "Less is more!"

    Good Luck!

Gonna try it in my grocery runner first -- My wife is a Veterinarian - she's the brains of the family - I'm just a retired computer system developer - :) - Chemistry and Mathmatics were her favorite subjects other than animal medicine and sees the bennies of Acetone after reading the articles - hell; some anesthesias are so volatile they evaporate before they hit the floor if you spill them.

It would seem to be easier to add it directly into the fuel tank filler although some say it is better to mix it and I can see that too. My question is if you were going to add it directly to the fuel tank how do you do this without getting it all over. Metal long neck funnel and glass graduated cylinder and a steady hand (not exactly an asset when your 60 ole fart - LOL?

I would think the best way is to mix it in a gas can. AAA (Always add acid). Just take you 5 oz and add it to a a few gallons of fuel and mix. Then just pour it right into your gas tank and then fill the tank up like normal. That's how I plan on doing it.

Sounds like a plan bro -- and thanks -- we have to stop meeting like this LOL
got this puppy in the clinic today with a chest hernia - tricky surgery but the wife is the best in the west - probably accounts for my QC vs RC getting terse :) - animal lover at heart!

Sidebar -- Puppy had his liver through his chest wall into his chest -- very strange but he is out of surgery - just finished - doing fine -- Whew!
