I'm eligible for an upgrade so looked at the Droid today. Not sure if I want to give up my BB. Maybe just upgrade to the BB Tour or Storm2.

Anyone on the Droid yet..how's it working?

I looked at it today to cause i left my phone on my GF roof of her car last night "kicks self in ass" I like my BB storm but the droid has a few things i like, like the fact you can locate yuor phone when you lose it! the internet it 100x better than the storm and faster.. but other than that i dunno

i have looked at it and plan on getting one next month when i upgrade my phone. really nice phones as far as i have seen and tried.

Haven't seen the phone, just wondering how that works? They've had that chaperone app for a long time which uses gps to give phone location (to a certain distance of course). Is this something different? Makes me wonder who else might be able to locate the phone if you know what I mean.

Ordered it online tonight, should get it Thursday. Always can go back to the BB if it doesn't function as advertised.

Can't say enough good things about the droid so far. Light years better than the old crackberry. Internet connections are fast, voice activated google searches and built in nav is great. Got the car mount so it's a self contained phone/PC/nav system for the car as well.

That's great to hear! Been looking to upgrade myself! Thanks!

if you get one and shut it off early your looking at 375 termination fee. applies to any phone bought after 11-14 and considered advanced.

Fortunately I purchased before 11/14 so my term fee is only $175, but it doesn't matter as I don't plan on leaving Verizon. It's $350 and it applies to all smartphones (blackberries included) only if you cancel Verizon service. The term fee is prorated based upon remaining life of contract. Not an issue if you don't plan on changing carriers. Switching to another phone within Verizon will not trigger the fee, you can either use an upgrade if available or pay for the full cost of the new phone.

Bought (upgraded to) mine after reading this thread, and checking one out in person. Figured I'd use the thing for a bit before posting up.

It's extremely intuitive and stable. The part that makes it such a gas is all the damned apps that are available, particularly the free ones!

Must have an unlimited data plan if you plan on getting one, though. You'll find so many things to do with it that you'd easily get in trouble if you have a limited plan. Apps like Pandora Radio creates a pretty good data stream, and you'll be downloading lots of stuff to run on it.

Set up a Google account, and entered all of my contacts with my laptop. Everything is stored on line, so if the device is lost, damaged, etc., it will restore all of it automatically when it's replaced. Also allowed it to link to my Facebook account, and it added all of my friends to my contacts (including putting their Facebook pix along side their names).

Add Weatherbug, and get near-real time radar and satellite images.

Add a barcode scanner and a compare program, and get info on products just by scanning the product barcodes in the store, plus find out where it's least expensive.

Add Where, and it will tell you weather, movies, gas prices, etc., wherever you go.

Add a ringtone app, and create/edit ringtones from any sounds or music tracks on your phone.

Getting an idea what you can do with this thing? Hell, someone even made a metal detector app!?!

Paid $200.00 to upgrade the phone, and have paid exactly $0.00 for the applications.

The only down side I've found is the time spent playing with all of the stuff, and looking for new apps. Other than that, this has been one of the sweetest tech toys I've purchased since my PS3. Speaking of which, I downloaded an app that can read the media files stored on my PS3 and play them on the phone.:congrats:

Droid

I upgraded my daughters phone to the HTC Eris which is the cheaper version, but this thing kicks!! 8 GB Micro SD included with the phone. I am looking to download music into it and using to replace her IPod as well!

She is 13 and thinks this is the shit!!

Maybe my next phone too!!

Trust me guys, all of the Android based phones coming out with all of the different carriers are gonna rock your socks. I'm personally waiting for one that is coming out later, but not too far away. The code name is the Passion (should retail in a different name), and since some idiot at work already leaked the pics, I can share those with you (link below).

I like it because it's a lot sleeker (kinda like an iPhone) than the Droid. It's all touchscreen, no flip/slide keyboard. It should have an awesome camera just like the Droid does. It will have all of the same apps as the Droid and hopefully more. I'm just not sure if it will come out on the Verizon network or not. Right now the phones are on Sprint, Verizon, and T-Mobile. I really hope it does not come out under T-Mobile!

That looks just like the next gen Instinct to me... :dontknow:  I like the fact Droid had a true QWERTY keyboard that slid out. I thought that was one of it's biggest selling points. I hate those damned touch screen key boards. My fingers are too fat. :D

My fingers are too fat for the slide out keyboards and the touchscreen ones. I've actually played around with the Passion, but have never seen the instinct 2. Physically the Passion is a lot like the iPhone IMO, and I like that.

Ordered my Droid X yesterday!! Should have it end of next week. Can't wait to mess with it!

Cool!

I have a Moto Droid also and love it. Former iPhone user. AT&T's garbage service in my area and crappy customer service pushed me down the road, and I haven't looked back. Verizon has been very easy to deal with since we started there. I felt like a criminal with background checks and shit from minute one at AT%T.

The only complaint I have with my Droid - and this is a well known issue if you do some searching; if you have a deep voice you cannot use a case on the (Moto) Droid. There is a noise cancellation microphone on the back of the droid that is covered by most popular cases. If you have a deep voice, you will cause just enough vibration with it that it will actually cancel YOU out. I removed my case and the issue went away 100%. Still worked fine with Bluetooth, but I don't always have my jawbone with me. I am unable to find a case that does not cause the issue with my voice.

I love my Droid, one of my favorite pieces of tech that I own, other than the small issue I listed. Supposedly in the next release of AndroidOS we're going to get an option to kill that microphone off all together. I guess we'll see. My wife has zero issues with her phone in a case, because her voice doesn't trigger this vibration issue.

My brother has an HTC Incredible (also android based). It put the iPhones we used to have to absolute shame speed wise. It has a 1GHZ processor. His phone absolutely screams.

The biggest upside to the droids is customization. Because the OS is open source, you can root your phone and do lots more with it; just like jailbreaking an iPhone, but even easier. Weak at tech need not apply for that, but you can always load lots of apps on it either way.

One thing I like with Verizon is that they still have unlimited Data, as does Sprint. AT&T now has a max 2GB data and then puts the fist to you if you go above that. AT&T applies that to -all- smart phones.
