Test drove a loaded '09 F250 Crew Cab 4x4 diesel. Nice ride, plush interior and quite engine. $5K rebates. Anyone with any experience or insight into these? Thanks.

my dad has a 08 f350 king ranch 4x4 diesel he says it is way better than the 03-07 6.0l it is a little tough on fuel compared to the dodge but more power stock.
He has done no mods but I have heard if you bypass the emissions stuff you can get 25-30mpg
I have driven it and it is better than my old 06 f350. I have always bought the 350's as resale seems to be higher compared to the 250's

I had alot of problems with mine after the coldair intake and ford couldn't explain it. It would shut off going down the road for no reason. It pissed me off so I got rid of it with only 4000 miles on it. I got mine when they just came out so maybe they have it worked out by now. I liked the truck besides all of that.

I owned a Ford F250 2004 King Ranch diesel. Best truck I've ever owned, had small problems with it but I really miss that truck!!

the 6.4L is a desent motor, much improved over the previous 6.0L they tow and drive very well, motors can easly do 700hp outta the box with a tune and exhast work. overall a very slick truck

Don't know about the new 6.4L, to new. A good friend of mine had a '04 and at 60,000 miles the turbo went out. He had other problems with so he bought a '09 Dodge 3500 dualey. He sold the Ford about 3 weeks before the turbo went out. Needless to say the guy he sold it to wasn't very happy. Good timing by my friend.

I have seen many of the 6.4's getting big hp and torque numbers with minor stuff done but I have also seen them not last long at all. It's a good truck STOCK but not worth a crap with any mods kinda like what rhino75 said

We have a Job 3 08 F450 (dually) 15.5k miles half of those towing 5-18k lbs. Haven't had to take it in for any issues. I get 11mpg empty and 7-10 towing. But yeah you can get some big numbers with these trucks. If you remove the DPF filter and tune it, you can get 500-600HP and 1100TQ:rock:

Thanks for the feedback. It was night and day driving it compared to the 10. The F250 was much quieter, had a better ride and was optioned to the max with the only thing missing being rear entertainment system. While it doesn't jump off the line like the 10 you can feel the torque as it pulls hard. While MSRP is $57.8, their first offer of $54.4 is awful steep before the $5K rebate. Edmunds shows them going for $47K with the rebate so maybe there's another $2.5K to squeeze out of the deal. The F350 seems priced about the same although I didn't drive one. Beside towing capacity and maybe resale any other differences with the F250?

If im not mistaken thats the new diesel ford produced in house, or is it 2010? :dontknow:
That's going into the 2011 which the dealer said would start production in Feb. He suggested staying away until the engine gets sorted out, but that can also be a ploy to sell what they have in stock today.

Other than towing capacity the F250 and F350 are the same. I would try and get them down on the price a little more. Are dually is loaded to the max and I believe we got it for 46 or 47K with a 7 year 100k mile warranty.

Yea what ever the deaer has listed msrp there's usually $10k they can knock off right off the bat. If you negotiate anything past that it's just bonus money for you!!

i'm not sure i'd get one with a 6.4L just becuase parts might be high for it later since it is only going to be in them for 2-3 years. If you only plan to keep it while it has a warranty then i wouldn't worry about it.

Well most know where I stand on the superduty & HD trucks. I wouldnt buy the Ford for 2 reasons.

1st reason is its on an extremely old slate. This body came out back in December 1997 as a 99 model. Its just SOO FREAKING OLD NEXT TO THE DODGE & GM trucks. My vote goes for the new Dodge HD coming out next month.......make that I strongly suggest you get the new dodge, heck even the old dodge is on an 2003 slate and aside from the interior it is by far a better truck. Now on the Gm, my last 3500 was an 08 GMC 3500 SLT 4X4. Loved it! Absolute best motor of the group to the point you cant even argue it. The Duramax kills both ford & cummins in power and reliability. Now were talking 09 models here.

2nd reason is the new 6.4L has a very sticky track record. My main complaint isnt the motors blowing up, or turbo going out(Cab has to be removed to replace BTW), its the fact that ford is declining warranty work like crazy and wont stand behind their truck. I personally have a friend who has has 2 powerstrokes replaced in his 09 F350, and they told him this was it, his warranty is now void. Im not quoting a magazine here, Im telling you of personal experiences I have had. Cya.

all i can say...is dodge diesel's are so much better...

when i was working for a local construction company, i started driving a 2500 cummins 4x4 5spd...pulling a 20k# cat .... then we got a 550 ford with a dump bed....that POS was in the shop all the time...the trans kept overheating, the cam sensors went out, it leaked oil, i think from the turbo, and this was bought new...the trans was getting so bad (overheating all the time with a load) the last time it did it, we took it it to the shop, and they couldn't get it to do it, so they said "you're gonna have to hook your rig up, and bring it back to see if we can do it before we open this transmission."...uhhh...no....left the ford dealer, and went straight to the dodge dealer and traded it on a 3500 dually 6spd 4x4......NEVER had an issue with it....

i would check out the new dodge's if it were me...

but my buddy just got a duramax single wheel 4x4....with the allison trans....he hasn't had any issues, yet....but he hasn't had it long, either...

What year was the F-550 that you had?

Don't know about the newer Ford SD's.... The only experience I've had with one is a friend of mine bought a '08 Harley (one of the very first ones off the line). He's had some issues with it, but it was all under recall/warranty. He likes the truck otherwise.

I had a '05 F250 6.0L and I miss it more and more every day. By far and away the best truck I ever owned. I got WAY more looks and "thumbs up" in it than the 10. :D But, I also think the body style was much better looking than the new ones.
