Brake Bleeding Problems.......

kevin call me tomarrow around noonish, Ill see if I can help you get it fiqured it out and I might have some tierod ends that are complete with boots and all.

Hey Alfredo,

I was actually going to call you anyway. I think you have info on the Barrett Jackson auction coming up in SoCal?

I dont need the steering tie rod ends-just the damn boots that fit over the ball joints. I sliced mine pretty good getting the suspension apart.

Call you tomorrow.

definitely sounds like you still have air in the system... more likely the ABS. You need a DRB to cycle the pump, or you can do it the old fashion way :D bleed it to the best you can, then head out on the road and mash it, enable the abs, a couple times. Then do a final bleed.

Hey P,

Hows the fam? Hope all is well.

So what is the damn DRB?

Not reall comfortable MASHING the brakes till they are seated/beaded in. Says about 300-500 miles.

The truck aint road worthy-together enough. Nor is it registered. So taking it out on streets probably aint gunnah happen.

That and theres also a bit of snow n ice on the ground. Doohhhhh

DRB is the factory scan tool, but good aftermarket ones (I use a Snap On Modis) have the same capability. No $300 scantool will have this capability though... :(

I vote air in the ABS as the source of your trouble, and I don't know of another way of fixing it short of scan tool. I agree that an ABS stop on fresh brakes isn't the best approach. :)

How do i activate the pump?

You can activate the pump with certain scan tools or like stinker said make some panic stops in grass or sand. Then re bleed.. But with a presure bleeder you dont need to do this because it puts presure on the whole system over 2.5 bar or about 50psi at the resovior so it forces the air out

neVer let resiVoir get low while bleeding i always top off after each caliper.once air gets in from top your f/>^#d.

Good to see you are still making progress on the truck. My brakes were the same way. They felt spongy and would not engage the abs system. I would guess you have air in the abs too. I never bothered to get mine fixed. I just made it a habit of pumping the pedal before i stopped.

SO...Pumping it aint gunnah work.

U hanging in there on the job front?

Yeah i refill after every caliper.

But it may have gotten air in when i was getting the suspension powdercoated though. I tried to keep on top of it but i think i remember one time it got pretty low.

So does the scan tool pressurize the system? Do i need to bleed while the scan tool activates the ABS?

What does the pressure bleeder look like? Will most brake shops carry one?

Im sortah to the conclusion like most that its air in the ABS unit. So that is my next area of attack.

Thanks for the info heads up

I agree with others. I think its air in the ABS.

I'm going to be in Reno in April for my daughter's volleyball tournament. I'll buy you a drink and we can plan a date to roadrace each other.

Deffinitely keep me posted.

We have a very nice 4 mile roadcoarse about 40 min from downtown Reno. Though they are having some troubles right now. Nobody seems to know what is going on with them. They are closed for winter but heard rumblings they are in foreclosure proceedings?

Damn just checked site-none of the links work. ????

Anyway make sure you get with me a couple weeks out. Maybe we can plan something. U driving the truck down or flyin in?

Kevin

Driving but not the 10. Either the Magacab or the wifes Jeep. Thunder hill is just outside of Willows Calif. We can go play there.

I knew that would not cut the mustard for you because of the road racing you plan on doing.

I officially got laid off 2 months after the Sacramento GTG. Then I got a job in North Dakota on the rigs. It isn't the same type of work I was doing before, but it pays the bills. The work is alright but the schedule and management sucks. My schedule is 14 days on and 7 off. Plus I spend pretty much 2 of those days traveling. We have one good supervisor and the others are just ok. The big one is we are just an employee number to main office. I do have a few other things in the works. Just gonna take some time to get it done.

Overall I am doing good and Brook is busy with school.

Ive had problems with dot5 on abs equipped vehicles, figured id see if this was related.

DOT 5 isnt recomended on abs vehicles, because it foams up in the pump and becomes a syrup type fluid. its silicone based and the rest are glycol based. Give Dot 5.1 a shot. ;) :)
