got a scary person at my door today. and insurance fraud investigator.
back in 09 i hit something submerged in the water. about 45min before that i had gotten insurance. i have good proof of that. here is where the problem might be:
i filed the claim a few days after, giving the date of the 22nd as the date of accident. it was the 22nd. the insurance policy says effective date 24th. this is the first time i have realized the dates were different. if this is the case its just a misunderstanding. the guy from the insurance board kinda was curious on this one. he didn't know what to say and claimed this was not his case from thes get-go. so if the effective date is the 24th this case is over before it starts, if not i am fighting a fraud case, a felony. i really hope not, but if so i will go pro-per. honestly i have always wanted to be a lawyer, and i might get a chance to be my own. i know i am in the right, so not afraid of losing, however the guy assures me if they don't have a case he will not be charging me. so most likely this will be the last i see of them.

i was thinking the reason they denied my claim was because of only 45min lapse between the call to the insurance and the accident. its kinda funny in a way and kinda not. BUT i asked the woman on the phone when i started the policy if it was effective immediately and she said yes.

ok this begs the question of why wait till then to get the policy. frankly i forgot. meant to do it before i left. just before i went to see the statue of liberty at night did i remember. and only because i got nervous.

the damage was minimal. and was under 1200. not getting paid for it was not a big deal in my eyes. already fixed the prop that got damaged.

anyone have a similar experience? will update when i get the call and they say i am all set.

tell them if you were going to commit fraud you might have put some more thought into it and waited a few weeks to make the claim, as well if you were making a claim and going to risk fraud you would have claimed the item stolen or sunk , re vin and get two boats... 1200 is not worth it for fraud bla bla bla..

agreed. i cant see this going anywhere. but strange none the less. funnyest part is when he walked up and flashed his badge, i thought i did something in the car, again.... was expecting him to say "is that your car right there?"

lol we had an escort one time brandish a pistol, it wasn't me thou.
i always speed. i also use small children as slalom cones, old lady's as bowling pins where my car is the ball, and run any light but the green ones. typical new yorker.

If yer guilty, I hope they throw yer dumbass in jail ...........

Scoob...

Acting as your own lawyer in a fraud case is like removing your own hemorrhoids.

Wanting to be a lawyer does not qualify...go get a lawyer and let the professional handle the work...doing it yourself is just proof of what some of the above posts are alluding to. Win or lose, it should be in the hands of a lawyer.

that's just my fantasy, i don't think they would go thru with it and be made to look stupid. it would be like me defending ageist charges i killed JFK. i wasn't even born yet.

this actually just shows how poor the boat claims people at progressive are. to muck it up so long. if this is dismissed by the fraud bureau i WILL be at small claims the next day suing for the damages that happened. i was just going to let it go.

thou i do have a lawyer in my phonebook if i need them.

what's the old saying......he who represents himself has a fool for a lawyer.

yeah forgot who that was that said that. most likely was a lawyer.

He who is represented is usually taken for a fool.

You wrecked you boat, then ran out and got insurance (AFTER THE FACT) in the attempt to file a claim.

..... Sounds like a pretty clean-cut case of fraud to me. Have fun with "Bubba" up in Federal Prison. :burnout:
