This is why I do it, watch out, it may get mushy. Its a great feeling to start something from nothing and see it grow. Its a great feeling to see a bunch of people that never knew each other, sign up on a brand new forum, and become friends 6 months later, all because of the forum I created. Its a great feeling to see 1000's of users putting decals on their trucks that say RamForum.com. Its a great feeling when users thank you for creating a place were they can meet others with similar taste in cars or trucks. There are ton more reasons why I love owning/running forums, but you guys hopefully get my reasons. Sorry, I guess I am not much a writer here, but I tried to type out how I feel about my forums.
And as I recall it can also be a money maker. Google ads, even if shown only to unregistered users, should pay for a basic hosting plan and then some. Throw in some dedicated paid advertisers, solicit memberships/donations, sell decals, etc., and it can be a regular business - ask eKool.
We dropped a PM to Jack as well on getting more involved, but not with the intention of making any money. We just like big displacement V10's - a lot.
