MY trans builder had me run ATF in mine. They recommend against synthetic, and told me the warranty is voided if I use anything mobil 1 especially gear oil. I went with Castrol dextron 3 atf and love it in hot or cold.

I dont know to be honest. It is a hydraulic fan powered by the power steering pump. Could just have air trapped in it from the pump change, could be going bad, could be a bad bearing. I have not had the time to check mine out yet

Try the fan. Mine does this exact thing when my fan kicks on.

Def not a rod bearing. Rods typically dont knock under load. That stays constant. I would almost bet the farm you have a stuck lifter. Every once in a blue moon my engine sounds just like that. If i shut it off and restart i can hear the noise go away as i build oil pressure.
