General UHP tires

I have a set on mine now. No complaints. I don't go all out on mine too much but have plenty of traction when I do.

Spend the money your truck deserves and put the correct tires on it.
Start with one that has the correct speed rating. I know, you don't drive over 150 mph. Being these pigs weigh north of 5000#s you want that V rated tire.

It will stop and handle like it's supposed to.
 
I have them on my 10 now and like them. I also had them on my 14WK2 SRT. good tire
 
Thanks for the replies. Im really disappointed in my Nittos and think I will try the General UHPs next. Dont need long life, just traction.
 
if you want a cheap tire that grips just get a set of Nexens. They stick and grip, and arent noisy as hell like the generals and nittos.

I had a set of pirellis they must have been old, worse tire ever! They did grip, but they could be balanced for shit. I tried numerous shops. I stuck with them though and when they wore out got some new toyo proxies on mine.
 
So the Pirellis are to what you were refering as “ the correct tireâ€￾? I will look onto that. Which Pirelli in original 305/40-22?
 
Yes, the stock spec Pirelli is the lightest, softest and highest load and speed rated tire available for our trucks.

Run them at the appropriate tire pressure of 38 PSI, warm them up before pushing them and you will never have an issue. If they get a few years old, they will start to get hard. I swap mine out and sell the great looking take off's. I also had a balance issue ONCE with a new Pirelli tire. Told the store manager to get me another one. Done!

Yes, that would be the original tire. There are many choices, just make sure you get one with the correct speed rating. The general is not.
 
The generals have been absolutely fantastic, however i'm sure they will not last long. This is my first set of them and i got them on shortly before the season ended. My truck will dead hook now from 30 mph and i like them a lot. However, I also have the QA1's as well and energy suspension bushings and a set of caltracs. I don't autocross or track the truck and the Pirelli's will excel greatly in handling but the generals are nearly half the price listed. I have a tire guy and paid $660 for all four tires, mounted, balanced, installed and a front end alignment. Pirellis are over $300 a tire. I run my truck pretty hard on the street so im sure ill maybe get 15k miles out of these tires, but the pirellis dont last long either. The compound is extremely soft, so this works great for me. For the price, i think they are the best bang for the buck except for KDW's G-force, but they are no long made in our size. I feel like even if I only get one season out of the rear tires on my truck, $300 bucks isn't that hard to justify for a new set of two, out the door. I really can't understand the pirellis anymore, especially since its hard to get a set with a recent build date and they are well over twice the price and don't last any longer, not for me anyway. These generals I purchased were made 5 months before i bought them, which is why i think they are so soft. I havent had a set of nexens so i cant comment there, and rarely touch past 150mph, so the generals work perfect for me. Great tire and good looking aswell. hooks solid, better than any other tire ive had on my truck (old pirells, KDW's, Conti's and now these)
We will see how they hold up when I put big power to the truck, but as of right now, two thumbs up and I will buy another set.

The Pirellis work well. However,wear very fast (10K miles and they will start bouncing), and if you don't drive them, the tires get very hard and ride extremely rough.
Also, I would stay away from Nitto's and Toyo's.
Nitto's seem to be a very rough ride, and are more of a general purpose tire.
Toyo's have nothing going for them, and would probably be my last choice of all. No real benefit to the proxies except for price.
Both of these companies make great tires (R888's and NT05R's), it's just we are all limited on tires choices in our size.

Just my .02. Hope it gives some direction.

Has anyone purchased tires more recent than 2018?
I have the original Pirelli's on the truck and I need a new set of something to get it passed inspection, and safer driving in the nicer weather.


If there is another thread for this please excuse my noobness and kindly provide the link.

Welcome! You must have a low mileage specimen like mine if you still have the original tires on it! :cool:
