Anyone know the best company to repair my pcm or where I can buy a replacement? Mine has the dreaded P601 code and will crank but won’t start. If it does crank, it doesn’t run long.

the PO601 Code

What is the PO601 Code?

The PO601 code signifies an internal control module memory check sum error. This error typically indicates that there is a malfunction within the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

Possible Causes

  • Internal PCM Failure: The most common reason for this code is an internal failure of the PCM.
  • Wiring Issues: Loose or damaged wiring connections to the PCM can also trigger this error.
  • Corrupted Data: Sometimes, the data stored in the PCM may become corrupted, leading to this error.

Solutions for the PO601 Code

Recommended Actions

  1. Check Connections: Inspect the wiring and connectors leading to the PCM for any signs of damage or looseness.
  2. Reset the PCM: Disconnect the negative battery cable for a few minutes to reset the PCM. This may clear temporary errors.
  3. Reprogram or Replace the PCM: If the error persists, you may need to either reprogram the PCM or replace it entirely.

Cost Considerations

ActionEstimated Cost
PCM Replacement$300 - $400
Dealer Replacement$1,176 (average)
ReprogrammingVaries by service

Conclusion

The PO601 code indicates a significant issue with the PCM that may require immediate attention. Checking connections and considering a reset are good first steps, but a replacement or reprogramming may ultimately be necessary to resolve the issue.

You could try usedpartsonline but before you decide you should know some people have had issues with this company but some have had no problems. Due diligence is always wise

A Tuner can reprogram the used unit to the v.i.n. (No Dealer required).
So with that being said wouldn’t it be possible to use any doge controller as long as the plugs are the same … just have the tuner plug in your vin and install the factory program for the 10 … ???

What is the reason for the vin ,,,, are tunes the same for the SRT’ 8.3

Is it also possible to just flash or install a tune if you have a SCT into any ecm?
