Replacement bulbs

If any cop actually cited someone for no amber lens I woukd think they have to much time on their shift! Hahahaha

But then there are the sixes to consider!

I was pulled over by a Florida highway cop for having a clear tax protector on the truck .. he told me that use to be a misdemeanor.. then he asked for my papers which ai didn’t have the new update insurance cad with me .. he wrote me a ticket for that .. then he proceeded to start asking about drugs hahaha what a dipchit .. he’s the type that would drag a 90 year old grandma out of her car and beat on her .. you right nothing better to do but harass people .. even some cop cars have the damn tag covers .. he’s the perfect example of a badge and a gun goon !

Maybe I could find a tv table set and use those

I was noticing some cars today that had white lenses and amber bulbs in the rear . Red lenses I know are a requirement for brake lights , white / clear for back up lights .. I’ll have to see about the front factory equipped cars on the road .. I’m in Florida .. there were no amber reflectors at all. I’ll have to see about cars front lights next time I’m out and about .. DOT approved lights and lenses may be different than state laws .
I know years ago in the mid 70’s cars had side marker red and amber reflectors some lite up others did not . They were required to light up if they had the light capability in Va. when I was a safety inspector. With the many many different types of factory lighting these days I’m just not sure the requirements are actually law. You may be correct I don’t know but may be a difference from state to state ..

You are confusing bulbs and reflectors, they are two different requirements and do not need to be contained in the same housing. When I get time I'll make some pictures to help show what I'm talking about. I deal a lot with JDM cars and other export/import vehicles and I can tell what market a vehicle was manufactured for just from color and position of lights and reflectors.

Sounds good ,, I’m always looking for answers !

This is regarding US markets, and since you mentioned white lenses it made me think of Mustang Mach-E. Luckily I found this video about Mach-E lights and helped show me which lights and reflectors were configured (
) but domestic market vehicles must fit the following:

Front:
White light (headlights).
Yellow lights for auxiliary are acceptable however cannot be headlights.
Amber (parking lights and turn signals)
Daytime running lights can be white or amber.
No reflectors are required.

Side:
Front of vehicle must have orange reflectors indicating front of vehicle.
If front turn signals cannot be seen from the side there MUST be a flashing amber light for turn signals. This secondary amber turn signal must also illuminate with parking lights.
Rear of vehicle must have red reflector indicating rear of vehicle and MUST illuminate with parking lights. Amber rear turn signals can work too but there still must be something reflecting red and illuminate with parking lights.

Rear:
White backup lights.
Red or amber turn signals.
Red brake lights.
MUST have red reflector, does not matter if illuminates.

So with all that being said here are some pictures. First is from the side where you can see the front has an amber reflector, independent from turn signals. The reflector doesn't illuminate since the turn signal can be seen from the side and the turn signal illuminates with parking lights.

Rear has a red reflector that does illuminate with parking lights. I am unsure if it flashes with turn signals, you might be able to see the tail lights flashing.
MachE-side.jpg

Rear has white/clear taillights that light up red when illuminated. These tail lights have no reflectors and law mandates red has to reflect from the rear, so Ford added two red reflectors with no bulbs.

Bonus round: This Mach-E is an export model because both front and rear reflectors/lights are amber. The rear also will require amber turn signals but I didn't dig into it, I just saw this picture and immediately knew it was an export car.

Another fun tidbit that shows people always want what they cannot have: If a vehicle was made in say, Japan, and came with red and amber taillights, and the US market vehicle only came with red taillights, the Japan market will want the solid red taillights because it looks cleaner, while the US market wants the red and amber taillights because it's more, "original" and some people like orange aesthetics more.

While working in the shop today I noticed on my 06 SRT-10 one bulb has a cutout so it can illuminate to people viewing from the side. I'm not sure how 04 and 05 taillights look, I'm guessing very similar.

There are A LOT of rules to follow when designing headlights, taillights, and side markers. We all kind of take it for granted and figure its an easy thing to develop but that isn't the case. I didn't even touch bulb lumen requirements, bulb illumination angles, brake lights cannot be on moving panels (such as hatches), sequential light requirements, etc.

WOW!!! that is incredible! Who would have thought something so seemingly simple was so complex!

Thank you for your time in putting this together so we can all learn a few things. I like to learn something new every day. I may not pass a test the first time but reference material is good to have! Thank you again

Definitely a lot more than I knew . Thanks for the info . I guess that means those amber reflectors are required to stay and using a bulb with a clear lens will not be acceptable..

Now that Mustang EV has more lights than Las Vegas hahaha ! Battery charging more cost more and sitting time at some charging point s more time wasted .. but I have to admit I do like the airplane cockpit

Excellent tutorial without a doubt ..
I’ll have to take a look at the 05 tail lights and see about those cutouts ..

Yes the 05’s have that cutout on the rear lenses !

Just learned what JDM cars are! That's my learned something new for the day! I did not know this before lol -

_JB_ used the reference in his post.

Learn something new everyday is a given ! Now what is a JDM car MissyMoto ? hahaha ! :D

Hahahaha!! I thought rice was rice! Gonna have to check

Randomly came across this on Facebook, this is an export SRT-10. The fender turn signals caught my eyes and upon looking closer you can see the rear turn signals are relocated to where the US backup lights are.
