I was dreading replacing the spark plugs after reading all the horror stories.
It is so easy!
So here’s how I did mine.
- Remove front tire for whatever side you are replacing the spark plugs first.
- Using a sharpie, make a small mark on the inner fender wheel well where the 5/16 hex screws mount to the fender. This
way you know which holes are used. Not all holes are used.
(You will notice that the two bolts holding the fender cladding are different than the other screws)
- Using a 5/16 inch socket, remove these hex screws.
- Now, mark the top of the inner wheel well where the hex screws are mounted, to make it easy to remember where they are.
- Remove inner wheel well.
- Now is the time to make your inner wheel well look brand new by going to Walmart and buying GX-3 plastic restorer,
UPC 0 18890 03863 8 (Thanks VIPR PWR for letting me know how well the stuff works!). Just spray it on, and don’t wipe
it off. It makes it look brand new, and takes about 5 minutes.
- Buying a 16mm magnetic spark plug socket makes it so easy. You can buy it on Amazon for $3.77(see picture). DO NOT GET THE 14mm.
- With the inner wheel well out you can now access those hard spark plugs (#5, #7, #9) from the inside of the wheel well.
- I had #5, #7, & #9 done in 30 minute for all of those plugs (not each one).
- I found it easy installing the new spark plugs by buying 4 inches of 3/8 inch fuel line that fits the porcelain of the spark plug. The fuel line is stiff enough to hold the spark plug straight when screwing the plug in. Then tighten up with your magnetic spark plug socket.
That’s it…
