When I was a wee lad, my grandmother would buy me those Maisto 1/18 Die-cast cars for Christmas. Every year I'd get a new one. One year it was the Jaguar XJ220, the next would be a Saleen S7, then a GTO Judge, Lamborghini Diablo (Viola SE30!!!), but one year I got a white with blue striped Dodge Viper GT2 car, and I instantly fell in love. I became obsessed with the Viper as a kid. The raw power, gorgeous sleek lines, the way the car wanted to viciously murder you around every corner. If I was playing video games, they would be racing simulators. And if I was racing, you guessed it, I was racing the Viper.
I grew up working my ass off to afford cars as a kid. I Never came from money, I was never handed anything freely. My dad had always taught me that something earned is something never taken for granted. I've owned turbo AWD Eclipses, RX7's, a built IROC Camaro mullet machine, Built Hondas (VTEC YO!) Mazdaspeed 3s, Saleen Foxbody (Sold it for college money) and a bunch of 6th Gen Mustangs (two GTs, GT350, And two Mach 1s), but was never really at the point in life to purchase the Viper I so coveted.
I then met my beautiful wife and her amazing kid a tad later in life, and became a husband and dad all at the same time. I bought a house and settled into a career and to this day, its the greatest thing Ive ever done with my life, hands down. I continued to grind, support my family, do the responsible thing, and moved up the career ladder to a point where I could finally enjoy to treat myself again. I MEAN, I did help find my wife the perfect Bronco Raptor with every damn option available, so I thought why not..
Now I'm still a dad, I still need to be practical, I need to always put my family's needs above my own wants, so it once again wasn't in the cards to buy myself a two seater rocket, so I did the next best thing. I went looking for a Ram SRT10. Now I test drove all the ones for sale within a 250 mile radius, and I couldn't find anything that wasn't beat all to hell. I mainly wanted a RC truck in red, but once again it just wasn't practical enough for me and the family. I searched months and months for the perfect one, mostly stock, well maintained, not too loud or obnoxious. Not beat.. and I honestly was about to give up and just buy a generic practical SUV, when this glorious, beautiful, godsend of a vehicle showed up. Mostly stock, 4 doors for the family, well taken care of, lower miles (30k) and it didnt cost close to what a 3rd gen viper does nowadays... best part? It was only 20 miles down the road from me.
I went down to the dealership as fast as I could, and scooped it up. It's not 100% perfect and TBH the auto 4 speed is a plauge unto this car. The motor feels like its fighting the damn thing all the time, but hey its mine. It showed 13 mpg on the read out, almost everything works as it should. My Family approves.
I know that this isn't the viper I've dreamed about owning since I was a kid, but its a damn good hold-over until I get my kid through college, and build the wife her dream home. CHEERS!
