Trying to verify the gear ratio on a Viper Truck SRT-10

Checking out a 2006 Ram SRT-10 regular cab with the six speed and the seller doesn't have any of the original paperwork. I know these trucks had either the 4.56 or 4.88 gears depending on how they were optioned, and some of the quad cab automatics had different ratios too . The door jamb sticker has some codes but I can't make sense of them. I've seen other listings mention that the gear ratio can be confirmed using the Dodge build sheet that you can access online with the VIN . Has anyone here actually used that tool for one of these trucks? I'm trying to figure out what this one has before I commit, since the seller doesn't know and I don't want to drive out there only to find out it's not what I'm looking for.

Get the vin and see if the truck is listed on the truck registry ..

I don't think the 2006 came with factory 4:88's I'm leaning towards 4:56 as being factory

The vin will get the info from the registry or Jeff on the truck itself

4:10's 04 only 4:56 04/05 from what I've read but yes the VIN for factory info. Is there a way to look underneath? What if a prior owner did a mod?

Had I gone through with e8sp retrofit I probably would've switched to 3.54's or 3.73's because 4.56's make the ZF's 4.71 first gear absolutely worthless, unless you're trying to pull liners up on the beach at low tide.

There's only two ways to know for sure:
1. With a scanner you can go into the computer and check the gear ratio; that will tell you what was factory installed unless someone has changed it, in which case then you'll see what they changed it to.
2. Pop the cover and start counting teeth; however D60 ratios are usually stamped on the outer ring.

I had 26 teeth and 4 wisdom teeth once … some were a pain and had to change them out to improve my performance hahahaha ..
Year ago some street orders went with 511’s and a few claimed lower … I could never figure out why .. Good for the launch and bad for the top end ..As they didn’t build to accommodate the ratio …

Raise both rear wheels on jackstands or use a hoist.
Mark one tire at the top with chalk or (?)
Mark the driveshaft.
Trans in neutral.
Put your phone on video record and point it at your driveshaft.
Rotate the tire exactly once.
If your driveshaft turns JUST over 4 turns, you have 4.10s. 4-1/2 turns, 4.56s, etc.
