After doing some research on other ways to power my valentine 1, I decided to go with the Invisicord (Invisicord Products Home Page). I went with the #I01EVB with an 8in length, added fuse and the standard connector type. Paid just over $20 including shipping. Really easy to install and I've attached pics showing where I placed the connectors into the wire harness that goes into the back of the rearview mirror.
The power (red) wire went next to the pink wire with the blue stripe and the ground wire (black) went next to the black wire which is next to the pink power wire. This way, the V1 only powers up when the car is running or the key is in the accessory position.

BlackKnight's install inspired me to upgrade my whole setup as my Escort was (still working), but 12 years old.

I went with a Uniden R3 Detector and a Blendmount mirror bracket. These are a really well-made bracket with allen-key adjustability.

The Mirror connectors were from MirrorTap (MTX-1010) and with a semi-firm push using the largest of the (4) provided spades, provide a nice firm fit.
No cutting, splicing nor taking things apart. It's a 2-minute job from the passenger seat.

There are cheaper kits out there but you get what you pay for. Everything fits like it should, works and even comes with zip-ties and a small piece of shrink-wrap.

As shown in BlackKnight's post, the + is the passenger side port in the mirror and the one right beside it is the - Ground. Thanks for posting the pics!!

The Uniden now turns on and off with the ignition switch. No need to touch the detector.

Sure beats the suction cups and dangling cords.

do you guys find that your detector just goes off constantly with all the cars now having radar for their lane assist and the volvo has laser for its lane assist.. I had a valentine or still do but its no longer used as it just goes nuts 80% of the trip... ( its a 14 year old V1) never upgraded do they somehow get around that or ignore that specific frequency or something now?

That's part of the reason I dumped my old Escort and went with the Uniden R3.

Certain Acuras and certain GMs still spew out the frequencies the detector picks up but it is WAY quieter than the old Escort.

There is adjustability in the new detector itself to reduce false alarms and manufacturers are providing updates from time to time you can do over the internet into the detector via USB.

I don't know of ANY units that can completely filter out lane assist and such and still provide good overall coverage, but new detectors vs. old are night and day quieter.

Add a laser-jammer system for another grand, and it may cause the Volvos' to go careening off the road.

You can check the serial # of your valentine 1 on the company's website to see if its upgradeable. You can then send it in to them; I think they have a upgrade that decreases the amount of "junk" it picks up

Rottenronnie, glad my pics helped you out!
