I'm kinda lookin around for a air intake I'm thinking about the volant intake with the ram air I've found one for $308. Is it the best on the market or is there better. My truck is completely stock except the tires for now.

Voolant Claims to have the most hp gains although there are several good intakes you could by. Actually there is a member here "lilred7879" selling a JMB CAI w/catch can - Gloss Black - brand new in box never used - $250.00 which is a very nice setup and comes with an oil catch can as well

Most CAI intakes will cost you horsepower. The best bang for the buck seems to be a factory intake with a drop in K&N. Justin's (JMB) probably works very well too.

The "ram air" Volant is not a good CAI. The opening on our hoods is not to allow cool air in, but rather to allow hot air out. When you block that opening using that intake, you create more heat in the engine bay.

I disagree with this 100%... I have had the Volant for most of the time I've had my truck (a 1 owner 2004, bought May 2004) and I have performed better than most Stock trucks on this forum the entire time I have been on here. Years before I did any lightweight tricks, like back in 2006 at the first big GTG I was the only NA truck in the 12's (ran a 12.64 that day) at full 5,000 lb race weight, including full interior and a bed cover. I did make an extra scoop (Ram Air behind the grill area, straight into the air box) and I have consistently had a better MPH that all the other NA trucks on this forum.

You got a sounds clip? I want to get a CAI just for the sound, and the TB would be sweet too.

Interesting feedback. What was the DA when you ran the 12.64 and what mods were done? Do you have pictures of the extra scoop you made?

I agree with Trainman as I have some of the fastest NA Quad Cab times and most were with the Volant. I used the hood scoop and added the grill ram air as well and my trucks temperature never changed a beat. The Volant does have a nice 4-barrel carb sound at WOT! Kinda Whoomp-Whooomp:D

Sub 13 second Quad Cab ;)

Scott, is the scoop in the grill part of the Volant or something different you guys have added?

You have to add this. There is a square opening in the front of the Volant air box, and you have to remove the black plastic shield in the grill area. I used an old air duct for the front brakes to form the scoop. I'll do a search to see if I can find a picture.

Yup, I was dumbfounded when I saw the Volant system and the opening in the airbox facing forward, yet no plumbing to it? Kinda like sucking the air outta the fender like factory. Now bring it about a foot to the grille opening and it has no choice but to breath cool air. The top side does bring in air as well, albeit less than the grille. I had wanted to block off the hood scoop so it would rely only on the cooler grille air but never did this. I always wondered if the air from the snorkle and the grille created a turbulent air pocket being air was coming in from 2 separate ways?:dontknow:

If you want something that looks nice and won't cost you that much hp go with JMB's CIA. Looks mean more to me than a few hp.:D:D:D
