I've heard mention that the 2006 10's are down on power compared to the 05&04's but don't know the reason why. Could someone enlighten me on that subject? Yesterday I sent my RC '06's pcm to The Viper Store for a reprogram and I'm installing a bigger TB and BB's complete exhaust system and wondering if there's something I'm missijng that would prevent my '06 from performing as well as the earlier Viper Trucks. I would appreciate any knowledge shared, thanks mark

I am not 100% sure until I look myself, but was told that they changed the frame on the 06' and it was just heavier. Also have been told most all Viper Truck engines were factory retarded on cam timing for emissions. :dontknow:
Been meaning to compare an 05 and 06 for years now:dontknow:

I have heard the same thing about the frame being heavier which would explain being slower, but I have also heard they are also down on power. Haven't heard why though....might be additional emission requirements or something. Would like to know myself.

thank you Venomous1, I think I can find out if the timing sets on the gen 3 trucks are a different part# than the tc's on the gen 3 car's. If so the truck timing set probably retards the cam.... and the more miles on the truck, the looser the timing chain gets, and the more retarded the cam gets. It would be nice to degree in a new aftermarket cam. Dang there goes some more $..

Thank you Falcon, I think you and Venomous1 are right. '06's might run better if the stock cam was advance slightly.

Pretty sure Ronnie did a lot of work with an '06 that was down on power. Many people expected him to find that they cam was retarded and it was not. Maybe he can chime in on what he found?

Have heard of nice power jumps from degreeing the factory camshaft as well ;)

One of the best stock dyno runs was on an bone stock 06, not even a tuner. 460rwhp Jimi's truck.

I believe the cam was retarded in the 06's and it is for emissions.

Wow that's strong stock I was 420ish stock :)

i did 163m/h on gps at the autobahn in Germany with 4 persons in the truck.
and that was before the lowering + headers + high flow cats.
my '06 is fast as hell...

06 timing??

I was talking to Torrie so I ask him....

And one other question, do the 06 trucks have the cam retarded for emissions? I have heard a lot of talk but nothing solid....Thanks

Thanks Yellow Venom, reading the replies makes me think some '06's are down on power while others are not. I wonder if the earlier 06's are stronger than the later 06's? if so maybe that's when Dodge retarded the cam? Does anyone have the consecutive unit numbers included in the VIN's 06 srt10 ram production?

ViperJeff will have all the info you need on Vins

my build date is 12/05. I wouldn't know if that was an early, mid, or late build date. Cloyes offers their Hex A Just adjustable timing set for the Gen 1 and 2 engines. Does anyone know if the Gen 1 & 2 timing sets are interchangeable with the Gen 3? What timing sets are owners using on Gen3 engine builds that allow one to degree the cam?

I think it's all an emissions deal and covered all years Viper Truck. There may have been a few tinkered with by builders on the assembly line to surprise the uinsuspecting owner, but I believe it's in the timing set. Ronnie has spoekn lightly about but he did all the research so it's not fair to just give away the info. Basically if you do all the teardown to degree your factory camshaft, you are better off while in there to install a better profile cam ;)
