Personal opnion is just that......opinion. I have seen horrible engine conditions with their old school oil as well. I'm sure the new formula is different. I guess no company has ever left a bad opinion on you that you wouldn't trust them again.
Exactly, it was the older stuff in high mileage engines I was witness too..
After seeing what the oil had done I decided it wasn't for me.. And as I stated in my post "unless they have changed their formula"
They very well may have.. But no matter, I am happy with the oil I have been using and have had excellent results with it.. To each his own.
OK..............I have Pennzoil Ultra European 5-40 in my current car which is factory fill for Ferrari, wouldn't think Ferrari would certify/approve an oil and USE it at the factory if it was crap.............oh well guess my motor will explode now, poor Ferrari......LOL
This comment is ridiculous to me.. I said high mileage engines. How many high mileage Ferrari engines have you personally seen torn down to know for sure the condition of the internals over a long duration.. I have no experience with them so I have nothing to say..
I don't care what they approve, that frankly means nothing..
Not comparing apples to apples with this, so bare with me here. But Dodge approved complete garbage oil cooler lines to be used on the Vipers and SRT Rams and they made it out the door for all of us to have to replace..
My point is, just because the factory, Ferrari or whoever uses it doesn't mean its the best. I believe what I see. If you find it to work for you than great for you.
Again, I stated "unless they have changed their formula"..
Pennzoil probably has at this point. And I truly hope they have, But I can say for fact that their old formula was pure shit..
OEM
OH NO, the VIPER and HELLCAT have it in them from the factory, make sure you don't buy one, must be a CRAP car to use that stuff.........LOL
This comment frankly, is just asinine. Really?
Tell you what, I'll let you know when I buy my Viper.. Rest assured however I will be changing it over to Mobil 1 syn.
Even if Pennzoil has changed their formula, I don't care. Burn me once shame on you, burn me twice... Well guess what, I'm probably not ever buying your product again.
And trust me Hawk, no hate or animosity intended toward you personally, but come on. With comments like these you come off to me as someone who has little to no experience tearing down and rebuilding engines.. I have been since I was a teen as a hobby.
Shit, when I tore my SRT Ram engine apart which had Mobil 1 factory it looked damn near brand new inside and spec'd out beautiful with 45000 miles on it..
I believe what I see and I know what I have seen with my eyes.
I don't know what Ferrari sees, has seen, or what they share with the public, or what their reasons are for choosing Pennzoil.
Plus in all reality I will never be tearing a Ferrari engine apart, so why do I care what Ferrari does?? Are they the engine Gods or something?
Show me a Ferrari with 200,000 miles on it that's been truly daily driven for 17+ years and I'll take a Ferrari comparison serious..
Sound unrealistic? Well just so happens my old 1998 Jeep Cherokee with an inline 4.0 6cyl just turned 200,000 miles on the clock just last week.. It still runs fantastic too. Never has it seen Pennzoil..
Never a rebuild either, only maintenance.. The engine has never been opened up.
I did a compression check on all 6 cylinders at 200,000 out of curiosity since I was changing the plugs and was right there anyway..
and ALL 6 cylinders were right at 155psi plus or minus only a couple pounds each.
That means the cylinders are good, the rings are good, and the valves are still seating in the head properly.
I want to see a Ferrari that has real world use in the same fashion as a real world vehicle.. and don't give me this 24 hours at Le Mans shit..
I want to see the the compression on each cylinder, I want to see the rings, the bearings, the wrist pins, the cylinder walls.. Show me the crank, the valves and valve guides, etc, etc. The true condition of the engine.
Then we'll talk about Ferrari and their Pennzoil...
And I know as fact Ferrari as had issues in the past with valve guides.
Or better yet lets talk about the Chevy's the Fords,Dodges, and Jeeps I've actually seen that have endured real world punishment and had sludge built up and the internals chewed up and worn down because of improper lubrication.
The only common factor between them all was, yep! Pennzoil
Like everything though things change. If Pennzoil has changed good for them.. But I'm still not using it.
