So I had a set of BFGs on my 10. Great tire, however I noticed the sideway was cracking a little after the winter. Driving home from work yesterday on the highway the back right tire just completely blew out. My uncle is a mechanic in upstate NY and asked him to look into prices of tires for me. Thinking about replacing all of them now before that happens again.

Cooper 305/40R22XL Zeon LTZ 114S BW - $248/tire
Cooper 305/40R22XL Zeon XSTA 114V BW - $190/tire
Falken 305/40R22RE ZIEX STZ04 114H BW- $165/tire- really dont like these

Just wondering if anyone has ever had these on their truck. I liked the BFGs but for $400/tire and that happened idk if its worth it...

THANKS!

I know you are limited to certain speed limits in the US but when it comes to tires it also has something to do with why they are rated to a certain speed index.

The tires you are mentioning are rated as follows :

Cooper 305/40R22XL Zeon LTZ 114S BW - 112 mph
Cooper 305/40R22XL Zeon XSTA 114V BW - 150 mph
Falken 305/40R22RE ZIEX STZ04 114H BW - 131 mph

I wouldnt want to risk to have a tire that might not handle the Speed and power of the vehicle that sits on top of it....

BFG's are history, friggin bean counters:mad:

I have had 6 Goodyear 305-45-22 on my truck since I bought it at 15,400 miles. I now have 97,000 plus and the rear two are 85% and the front are at 45%. Granted I drive 95% of those miles on the highway and only been to 140mph but unless you are smoking the tires all the time I believe these are a good bargain at $190.

You might ask Busiculo to post pics before mounting those BFGs. May be a reason they discontinued em. Not the first I've seen like this. Apparently the nice rubber compound they use to allow great traction also leaves them suceptible to accelerated deterioration. :(
Busiculo, could you tell us the date of yours? There's an oval DOT stamp followed by a 4 digit code as in ( 3312) ex. Which would mean born on the 33rd week of 2012. Curious to know just how old yours were. Post those pics too to help others be aware. I've ran many tires sets in 127k miles of not so easy driving and had Falken, Nexen, Toyo,,Cooper, Pirelli, and back to Nexen. Never once had a splosion like yours! Course mine never had a chance to get old either. :burnout:

There ya go! So your brand new BFG are already 3 years dry rotted! The rubber composition breaks down on a shelf just as it would outside, just lesser rate.
Not saying I wouldn't slap them on and haul ass, but be aware. There was a huge stink about WalMart and many others selling 3-5 year old tires. They just aren't new and going to last like a new(fresh) tire should.
