Congratulations on the keeper man. You better take care of that woman right! And welcome from California. Ask away, we are here to help. :)

Check engine light came on Fri night. Autozone scanned a bad crank sensor. I went online to change myself, but followed directions for cam sensor. When I reinstalled cam sensor I must have inserted it too far into block. After replacing actual crank sensor, I cranked it. Now my cam sensor has severed a portion of sensor into motor and I'm afraid to install a new cam sensor and have pieces of old flying around inside engine???

Yikes... I would try to slip a small magnet into the opening and see if by a miracle of god you can get it to catch the piece of sensor that broke off. Otherwise, you will have to go through a huge migraine before it gets any better. I advise you to not turn on the truck until you have removed that broken sensor otherwise you may end up with unnecessary damage.

Just an FYI.

There is a NAPA shop on McQueen just north of Guadalupe in Gilbert. The owner, Jack, was the Viper tech at Earnhardt Dodge before he opened his own business. He knows his stuff and is fair and honest.

The cam sensor is fully plastic on the outside unlike the visible magnet on the end of crank sensor. I guess I'm now draining $75 of Mobil one from last week and pulling pan to see what's in there.

Good luck on the removal. Also, you're way overpaying for Mobil 1

Mopar use to put a small cardboard disc on the end of cam & crank sensors to set the air gap. When you first start the engine either the flywheel or cam gear would clean it off. The teacher @ Chrysler drivability school in Malvern Pa claimed they would do no internal engine damage. Also they pulled the oil pan off a 3.3L V6 that had about 6 cam sensors put in during class. A few were stuck to the oil pump pick up but not enough to stop oil flow.

The Cam sensor is a plastic wrapped magnet! don't spin the engine ! the front timing cover has to come off and the pieces of magnet will have to be cleaned out. Kind of a big job,but necassary. the pieces will stick to the timing chain and wear out the gearset.,and everything else prematurely I paid $1050 CDN for a new timing set from Dodge ! There are no aftermarket alternatives. Good time to slide in a better Camshaft if you have a some spare Cash.

The best Viper Specialist that I know of in Phoenix, is Eddie Martin. He has a Viper car & truck & races the car. He owns Maeham Motorsports & works at Airpark Dodge in North Scottsdale. Phone # 602-448-1587. Once you get that big dog back out on the street hook up with us on Saturdays. There are three or four of us viper trucks & two viper cars that GTG every Saturday. Good luck with your 10.
