Hey guys, I'm in a bit of a pickle and I need some advice on how to proceed
with this problem. First a little backstory. Also, this is about my chevy not my
dodge, I came to you guys because I need some advice from people I can trust
here...
About three months ago I went mud bogging with my chevy and wasn't intending
on driving it hard but I hit a rut when I was passing a pit and slid into it
sideways. I couldn't get out but ended up burning my clutches (automatic) trying.
I managed to limp it to a shop across the street where they did a tranny swap
for me and then I had it towed back to my apartment because my engine was
knocking pretty bad. I ended up doing an engine swap in the parking lot...
After all that was said and done I couldn't set the timing to save my life so I
had it towed to another shop whom I was referred to by a gentleman that works
at a machine shop that has a good reputation (been here 30+ years everyone
knows them etc etc...) I was told if there's someone that can do it well it's this
guy. Anyways, I get it towed over and had the gentleman set the timing but
he told me my carb needed a rebuild because one of the two primaries was
functioning properly and the secondaries were just clogged. So I went and got
a new carb because I needed the vehicle done ASAP. I brought the new carb.
to the mechanic and he installed it but told me I had a vacuum leak at the
intake manifold gasket so I brought him new gaskets because I wasn't trying
to work on this truck in high 20 degree weather with snow.
Now this is the problem. He told me he would have it done by Tuesday this week.
I called Tuesday afternoon to check but he hadn't started yet. He said
by Wednesday for certain. I called Wednesday to check and he said it was
done. I stopped by and the mechanic had left but his guy that handles most of
the side work was there. We tried to start it for about ten mins and it
wouldn't catch. The side man called the mechanic and the mechanic said he'll
look at it in the morning. Thursday morning he supposedly came in and got it
running without any problems and moved it outside. When I came Thursday
afternoon and tried to start the truck it wouldn't start. We popped the hood
and there was a puddle of antifreeze on the intake manifold as well as along
the edge of the intake gasket. He was also gone before I could get there and
this time the sidekick of his said he would call me early friday (today, he was
swearing by it) to meet me at the shop and go over any questions I had as
well as show me how to start it. I never got this call so I called about 11 o'clock
and apparently the sidekick was at another shop so I was passed to another
guy. This guy said the mechanic would call me directly in a few mins and that
he was pretty sure the mechanic had worked on it earlier in the morning. I
waited an hour and didn't get a phone call. So I drove over there and lo and
behold my truck hadn't been touched and the coolant was still there.
I didn't realize this but a friend of mine told me I could have been arrested
for trespassing because I was more or less working on my truck. I took the
battery out and brought it home so I could hook it up to a charger I also took
rags and put them in the puddle to soak it up.
How do I proceed with this? The mechanic and his sidekick keep blowing me
off or avoiding me, either one. I'm genuinely worried I might be getting
scammed or that there's something really wrong with the motor now and he
doesn't want to come out and say it. I was given the mechanics cell and he won't pick
up (I've only called once, I also left a message). What really bothers me is
today when he was supposed to call me in the morning. His sidekick
said he would be in for certain so I told him that I don't care what time he calls
me I'll come in within 15 mins. of that call so he can show me what's going on.
I stressed that I just wanted to speak to the mechanic for five mins about
this.
I really don't know what to do here... They've salted the roads pretty heavily
and every time I step in the dodge I nearly shed a tear at the thought of my
frame possibly starting to rust from the inside out. If he had done it on Tuesday
like he said my dodge would have been in storage. But now I face a snow
storm this coming week and there's no way I can drive to class in that truck
with snow.
