Removing Lock nuts

Hey folks, brought the truck to NTB and they played around with it for a little
bit.. Ended up cracking the lock nut on my RR. They managed to get the front
undone though, which is good :) So tommorow they said to bring it back in
because their master mechanic should be in.. it looks to be a pain to get off..
I plan to just use the orginal lug nuts that came with the truck and dispose
of the lock nuts.. I'm not in a ghetto enough area to worry about my rims
getting stolen :)

Just wanted to post the result photos and how-to :D

Basically went down to NTB today because the master Mech. would be there
turns out he went home early.. Anyways, long story short they got the cracked
wheel lock off and what they did was they got a bigger socket (24mm) then
hammered it on over the wheel lock. Using an impact wrench they then proceeded
to remove the cracked wheel lock. Now in my special case they had to use
the key to finish the removal but i think in the general case of key loss or something
else this should work :) ... and of course, pictures

What brand of locks were they, MoPar?:dontknow:

Yeah these were the Mopar locks.. I was trying to find a set of locks that
were discrete in that they looked like another lug nut but really it's just a plastic
cover on the lock itself..

prolly more my fault, i thought it originally was about a lug nut.........

I've got the same locks. They have a plastic screw on cover?

Never had mine off yet. Bought new sockets yesterday to take wheels off to clean the rims.
Mine have never been off. I should find out tomorrow.

Hope your's were just put on by Godzilla.:dontknow:

these mopar locks are crap , i broke one and still have it on my wheel . Will try to remove it this weekend .

Word to the wise, if your not using an imact wrench wrap a cotton towel(s) over
the two closest "beams" so you don't nick the wheel if the key twists out while
your trying to remove the wheel lock.. If i had done this i wouldn't have so many
little nicks on my wheel like i do now

This little project has turned into a pain in the ass!
All I wanted to do is clean the inside of my rims.:argh:

Wheels have never been off and I bought the truck new.
I think some one was pissed at the factory.
Had to break out the old two foot pipe to bust them lose!

With the weather lately only got two wheels off so far.

Every single lug nut has either rounded or scraped up the chrome outer shell on the lugs.
(Yeah, I'm using a 6 point socket.)

Any one have the same problem?

I don't want to put on the same lugs.

Question: What brand of replacement lugs actually work with our wheels?:dontknow:

I think McGard sells good lug nuts but i'm not real sure.. Only time i used
McGard was on my 81 F250 lol..

I should have added "no more locks":D

Just looking for replacement lugs that work.:dontknow:

ps:?

I tried the socket on one of the lugs that were not on the truck and the socket fits perfect?

Hard time getting socket on lugs on the truck, I have to tap it on???:dontknow:

went to rotate my tires awhile back and wheels were stuck to the hubs, had to take them to a shop and they removed them with a plastic mallet. i would recomend putting anti-seize on the wheels where they mate to the hubs.;)
