Modern fighter aircraft really do not need wings to fly. The wings are there more as attach points for the control surfaces. They don't provide all the much lift. That is why if they lose power, they drop like a f'ing rock.

He was very lucky that he was able to retain the other control features, or he would not have been able to land it.
