Well ever since the whole thing with the dealer leaving my oil cap off   i have been wondering if i could change the oil at a local lube shop without voiding the warranty? i am really good friends with the oowner of the shop and i know that he would do very good work. so if i took it there will i void the warranty

I don't see why not? I change my own oil. Shouldn't void the warranty but I haven't read the fine print either. I believe just have to show proof of changing oil/filter per manual guidance.

nope...make sure you use the mobil 1 0w-40 synthetic and keep your reciepts...make sure the vin is typed on the reciept with the mileage and date.

Some car manufacturers require you to use there OEM oil filter. Otherwise, you should have no problem...
