I have a couple of questions about cut outs.

1). How much extra hp/trq will one gain for dumping the exhaust? Maybe 5-10?

2). If one was to ride with cut outs open on the high way, would they gain much gas mileage? If so how much? 2-3 mpg maybe?

3). Is it a bad idea to ride with the cut outs open on the high way for an excessive amount of time? (i.e. more than 4-5 hrs)

4. Does riding with cut outs open while highway riding produce an annoying drone/humming sound?

5). Other benefits of having cut outs other than the awesome azz sound they make?

Thanks for the info:rock::rock:

2. :dontknow:
3. wont hurt a thing
4. hells yea unless you simplying love the way it sounds
5. awesome/annoying noise

I like the way mine sound if they are cracked open just a little, otherwise I really don't the way it sounds. The only other time I like the sound is at around 2 am hauling ass down empty highway 169. They only sound good open at idle or cruising at about a 100 mph. Any other times it just sounds like a pissed off UPS truck. Mine gets 3 to 5 mpg better if I coast every other mile.

I agree totally.

I thought that no backpressure on an engine is bad? :dontknow:
Thought it would mess up the lifters or something

lol coast every othern mile lol would take me forever to get to LA from GA doing that. It already takes 8.5 hrs to get there. lol wonder how much gas money i would save doing that lol hahahahahahahah:elefant:

I thought that too thats why im asking around to see and get some info. I dont know if it is a little back pressure or no back pressure that messes some thing up :dontknow::dontknow: no engine guru

lol ha ha h ah #4 cracks me up. I wish it would give me about 3 to 4 more mpgs but probably not. Man round trip last time i went home to LA and back to GA i spent right at $500 bing bings but it was a hellaofa ride:rock::rock:

No back pressure will cook your valves, eventually and you won't know until it's too late. Tuned headers, and by tuned I mean length is matched to your engine output, hold enough back pressure to decrease this problem with regular fuel as opposed to really high octane. Dumping your exhaust just past the stock headers will eventually damage valves but it takes a while. Now this is old racing lore and I do not know on our engines exactly how that might work, but I suspect it's the same. Scavenge too much and the valves overheat. Scavenge too little and you lose efficiency and a bunch of other stuff I won't go into here. Some of the hard core racers here can probably give you numbers if you are into that. Have fun!

"Dumping your exhaust just past the stock headers " you mean like right behind the front tires?

1). How much extra hp/trq will one gain for dumping the exhaust? Maybe 5-10?

none - i found that teh reduce the HP #'s and do not provide the back pressure needed

2). If one was to ride with cut outs open on the high way, would they gain much gas mileage? If so how much? 2-3 mpg maybe?

again none - i never seen any improvemnet in mpg

3). Is it a bad idea to ride with the cut outs open on the high way for an excessive amount of time? (i.e. more than 4-5 hrs)

if you can stand you truck sounding like a race rocket for 4-5 hrs - GO for it

4. Does riding with cut outs open while highway riding produce an annoying drone/humming sound?

no they do not reduce the drone - but they do incress it

5). Other benefits of having cut outs other than the awesome azz sound they make?

none

this is my opt. i hated the cutouts - they sounded GREAT at idle but when the truck was moving - i found the it be sluglish - and not very responsive, and the f'en noise it made was just plain annoying

i could not stand to have them open other then @ idle : here is the setup i have

540ci built engine
Mopar LT headers
Mopar mids
QTP Elec cutouts
magnaflow exhaust
cat delete

but i also here it all about placement of the cutout - i had mine welded at the mid point of the mid pipe, and also i ahve been looking for the perfect sound for these trucks, and to date have been unable to find it, 10 exhaust systems later and working on number 11

good luck

yeah but the dam white boys likem:aetsch:

Man 11 systems thats alot. I dont know if any work was done to my 10 before i got it seems to be stock. I have a true dual magna flow system on it i dont know what series but i love the way it sounds. Im sure you have tried that one if you going on #11.
