Official Houston, Texas GTG August 20th

Well I got home about 4 hours ago and bout to go back to sleep.
Wanted to thank all who came out and helped when I grenaded (best fitting word) the straps in my rear u joint on my 2nd pass right on the line:mad:
I already had a worry about them nor holding the caps tight in
Place, and well my worries rearedtheur ugly head!
I'll have to get pics, but lets say from what happened I was Very lucky to make it 3 1/2 hours home!

Shaft beat the shut outta the gastank and itself against the ground. Sheared one of the 4 bolts that hold the straps on. Straps were little fragments leftover! Stretched and Bent the remaining 3 bolts. Joint caps were destroyed ( thankfully I had a new joint in the truck, but no straps!:dontknow:
Well, I hit Ironhead up about borrowing the straps off his black 10 an hour away before racing as the straps on the truck we're letting the caps walk (Cheap Made in Taiwan straps!!). Well after it was all said and done, Justin and Wade hauled ass the 2 hour drive to Ironheads and back to the track wher I was sitting waiting on only those straps and bolts.
Thankfully Ironhead had them or it would have been a very miserable morning 3 hours from home! ( thanks a shitload Ironhead(James)!!

Did manage a 13.2@104 the first pass but still lost to JSandlins Trailblazer, good job Justin, sick family wagon fo sho!

Justin and Wade, I really appreciate y'all hauling ass after parts at midnight in Houston! Yalls help was greatly appreciated and sorry it was a bad ending to a good night! I was gonna hand the N2O Lightning his ass;)

Another thanks to Oso,fahrenheit and crew, Justin Sandlin, and all who stayed till wee hours of the morn waiting to see if we'd get her on the road. Finally had to tell OSO to go home, like a trooper he stayed and kept me company (in the middle of F'ing nowhere. Told him I was gonna try and get an hour of shuteye while waiting on the parts.

Lesson learned and I will make a thread about it!
You are supposed to replace these straps when you change a u joint! Well I did but the only available ones are Made in Taiwan and way cheaper steel than Spicer straps that come with the diffy factory. They Suck!!! Comparing the two last night, they are a world if difference!

Ironhead, another thanks fir having the parts and letting me use them to get home. I will send your 8mn and bolts and straps back ASAP bud.

FYI - you can indeed make a couple hundred miles with one bolt holding the strap on your u joint. ;)

Well it was a pretty good time all in all. Sucks Scottie had issues but thanks to a great group of VTCOA members he was on the road again. Wish I could have stayed out there and did more but having a tired group of kids sure didn't help. Hopefully someone will post some pictures up for all Yall bastards that didn't come out :). As far as racing I wasn't too impressed with my times but I did manage a record of 3-0 against srt-10s. I guess we will have some rematches up in temple :)
 
Hey VENOMOUS1, sorry about the failure but good thing for good friends! Sounds like it made all the difference in you being able to limp it home. Glad it wasn't worse.

Hats off to all of you guys that helped.

Thanks! Yes the VTCOA and many friends made were there to aid. When the track closed at 11:00 it was lights out in the middle of nowhere land an hour outta Houston! Good thing I was packing, felt much better. Many stayed for an improvised break your truck parking lot party with the local bat population,lol. Finally told them to go home and get rest as I felt if I got the straps, I could make it 3 1/2 hours home.

Thanks to all again, and yes, it's more than a website, it's family!
This has been noted my hundreds if members worldwide whom have had a "family" experience with members you've only heard of or talked over a keyboard with.

ok, took my truck apart today found out the effing shifter handle was just flopping around on the shifter no wonder i couldn't hit a gear to save my life:mad: now we need to have a temple G2G so i can stomp the minivan:aetsch:

HAHAHAHAHAHA I had the same happen to me with my RC. Man I loved the truck but sure hated all the issues. I had to get longer bolts since the threads fucked up. I would check them every so often and they would always be loose even with locktite added. Im sure if you shift casually you wont have a problem but I drove the shit out of mine. Oh and the minivan will be ready. I wasnt happy with my times at all so by the Temple GTG I will be ready. :rock:

What Temple GTG? And how fast is that mini-van you guys keep talkin bout? Were driving down to Brownwood for Labor Day weekend, plan on going to visit Graham at nitrous outlet while we're there visiting wifes family.

Well we started off have a GTG in Temple like 2 years ago and now just had one in Houston. So the next one will be in Temple but not sure when. The "minivan" is my trailblazer SS and its a mid 12 seconds on street tires (with a car seat).....for now :D

Hmmmm..........I didn't get to see this as I was in line, but looks as if the 10 woulda won had he not missed a gear? He was ahead at the camera shot?
You took me legititmately though, I give you that. You have that vid since it was the only one I got of not breaking?:elefant:
