This is an abomination of what or society has become.

What exactly PO's you about it?
Because someone is kicking someone out that is that old?

"Texana Hollis was evicted Monday and her belongings were placed outside the home. Her son, Warren Hollis, said he didn't pay the bill for several years and disregarded eviction notices."

It sucks and all, but they brought it upon themselves. Wish I could live for "several" years for free. :dontknow:
Move in with the son.

When you are 101 years old and in a wheel chair , picked up and put on the sidewalk you can let me know what you think then ! Human dignity or the dollar. Fuck the dollar.

This is the part of the story that bothered me. Before the foreclosure someone should ahve contacted Adult Protective Services. Steps should have been taken to protect this person. I realize the property owner is not resposible for her care, however, APS has the tools ansd resources to help...

I agree, this was handled poorly, however, it does show that their are still very good people out there...

"A neighbor was letting Texana and Warren Hollis live in a rental house across the street from the home they shared, and Texana Hollis' belongings were being moved there. Others, including a nonprofit organization, were working to get her back into her home."

ok, so it is all about her age. If it were about a 35 year old you would be screaming kick his butt out and saying he deserved everything coming to him.
I can see the frustration. Also re-read the story. She was living at the house with the son, so she can't move in with him.

and yes, the son may have also been eligible for assistance with APS because of his age. being 65 and making poor choices is not new and still happens every day.

Jeff the house was owned and paid for until the son took out a loan to fix the place, which it says he did with most of the cash.. The bank or Hud are the one's that held the loan.
I for 1 would have let her live there for the remainder of her life. NO WAY, I can respect anyone that would order this or do the actual eviction PERIOD. If I worked for a company that could do this , I would no longer work for them.

Tough issue...but where do you draw the line? 100, maybe 90 or 80 or...

I concur with the idea that this could have been handled differently...but the fault is with the son not paying...ignoring the notices...

I bet the foreclosing entity had no idea that there was a 101 year old woman in the house.

Yes, it is about the 101 year old lady that triggered my anger.

A 35 year old is capable of earning a living and pay his bills. If he's not than most likely he's not trying.

See, thats the hard part, we just don't know...

he could have had every intention of doing what need to be done, ended up with a crook of a contractor, paid up front and got very little work done on the house in return... This article lacks all kinds of info.

A lady I work with has had to take care of her sister in law, simply because the sister in law thought she was doing the right thing and lost over a 100k to a scammer. Now on a fixed SS income that doesn't come close to covering the bills. The family is trying to help, just not sure they can do enough. The bad guy in this case will not be the bank, but the scammer...

So back to the original discussion, without all the sorted details, it's just hard to know what to think. I still feel bad for both the son and his mom, it has to be really tough on both of them

Once you make the decision to do as you have said...you have set a precedent that would put your organization at great risk. Other people would ask for the same treatment...some older and some younger...and the younger ones that you say no to will sue you for age discrimination...

Corporations cannot treat people differently based on age, race, religion or religious beliefs...that is the law and it works both ways, up and down.

As an executive with a very large insurance company we faced similar situations...and had to be consistent in our treatment of situations...but there were occasions that we leaned on suppliers for favors...in this case we might have asked one of our business partners to step up and pay off the loan...so that she could have her home unencumbered.

There is more than one way to skin a cat...don't tell my wife I used that phrase!!!
