I made my first 1/4 pass this weekend. Nailed the 1st to 2nd shift and the 2nd to 3rd shift, but missed 4th. After the run, during normal driving, it is hard to move the shifter into 4th gear and it is VERY hard to get into 6th.

What did I break?

I'd pray for the easy first! Remove the center console and loosen all bolts holding the shifter. Shift thru all the gears a few times and then tighten up. See if that fixed it! Many use too much force to shift during the adreniline rush of racing that they break handles or move the shifter box itself.

Bad new could be a bent shift fork from you over-exerting force during shifts. I would surely try to re-align the shifter box a few times first though.

Thank you for the reply! I didn't know I could use too much force during shifting  . As long as I have the console out sounds like a great time to put in one of Tony's shifters.

Again, I appreciate the help!

bent shift fork or worn or missing shift pads

i'd start with the above, as well...

how many miles are on the transmission?

do you track it much?

15k miles on my truck. I baby it most of the time. This weekend was my first time accelerating hard like that (so no time on the track).

bent shift fork or worn or missing shift pads

So you don't think "adjusting" the shifter will help?

hmm... i'd hate to see one with that low miles, but i think the 1,2,3 forks and pads are different than the 4,5,6, and if that's the case, and you happened to bend the 4th gear fork, or even broke it, that could cause your issues...

have you let it cool down and see? or turn the truck off and try to row through the gears? what does it do with the truck off?

It happened yesterday afternoon. I drive my truck to work everyday and it was still hard to get into 6th this morning.

How difficult is it to replace a shift fork?

check your fluid, make sure its clear maybe even flush it,

align the shifter

but since it was fine before and now all the sudden does it, it sounds mechanical, like something happened,

could be a number of things, but to replace forks, pads, or synchros tranny has to come apart

sounds like your clutch may have ripped apart,, thats what happened to mine,, did the 1/4 and would not go into gear,, pulled it apart and the clutch pads were ripped off the plate and stacked up inside the housing..

it could there is such a number of things , its really hard to determine over internet

I don't think it is the clutch because it is gear specific. I also doubt it is fluid related for the same reason. A bent shift fork sounds logical, but I am keeping my fingers crossed that the shifter "walked".

Nobody else has experienced an identical problem?

Shifter walked;) Buy one of your choice like you said or for now spend 20 minutes taking the console apart, aligning shifter, and putting back together:burnout:
You are correct, it's not the clutch that would make it gear specific, not would the fluid do such. Really doubting the bent forks but it does happen on occasion. How is 4th now? Just hard to get into 6th? No other gears acting up? If you let off the gas when you clutch for the 5th/6th and give it a second then shift to 6th does it go in like butter?

can you get it into 4, 5, and 6 at all?

or does it "feel" like it wants to go in, but doesn't go all the way, but if you hold it, the gear will engage?

or like venomous said, if you double clutch or blip the throttle, does it go in smooth?

The transmission goes into 5th as normal. 4th no longer seems to be a problem either. I will try giving it a little time between 5th and 6th to see if that makes a difference, then report back here.

Thanks for your help everyone!

Not saying this is what yours may be, but if shifting one time is hard and the next (with same gear) is easier.. my guess it's your hydraulics taking a sh*t as the force used to depress the clutch pedal FAST (especially at the track ..quicker reflexes :p) can really put more strain on them. I don't got many miles on mine either. But my problem was at random times, during hot weather, stop n go traffic. If 10 times outta 10, you get the same thing, I'd steer toward trans.

And when you say, you missed 4th... do you mean, you grind? or put it into 2nd? or into Neutral? realizing, and then dropping it back into 3rd? Cause you'd feel it in your hand that something not good has happened. I'm sure if there wasn't anything audible or physically felt.

Just trying to dig deeper bud.

yeah... mine used to do it all the time... cheap clutch fluid when it heats up breaks down...

sometimes i couldn't even get it in reverse at the track until it cooled down...
