Speed in Gears

Well, I know that my last run at the Maxton Mile was 155MPH in 5th with my 4.56 rear gear, and I was very close to redline, so I am hoping that your figures are correct, cause I'm going to order the 4.88 gear Monday morning and see what happens after Christmas on the test track. Cause in April, I'm going for that 167MPH National Record. Thanks for the info.

Do not go with 4.88's, use a 4.11 gear and you will see approx. 170MPH at 5500RPM assuming stock transmission ratios and stock height tire (approx. 31.5). You will never pull 6th gear to 170MPH in a reasonably stock powered truck with 4.88's (only 4400 RPM).

I,m sure I see aprox. 80 MPH at the top of second,will have to double check when I can! I,ve hit 160 plus:D (not stock,4.56s) in 5th and sixth,I believe That I can hit 175:dontknow: .I also believe that an excess of 1,000 H.P. Minimum would be needed to hit 200 M.P.H. to overcome the wind resistence:dontknow:They should of put 200 M.P.H. speedos in these trucks.
By the way,I,ve also checked a few trucks speedos on a dyno and found them to be accurate to aprox. 150 mph(could not go higher).I can,t wait to see some good calculations!!!:rock:

Justin,

Are you assumeing the top speed at 5500RPM in 5th gear? I don't see 6th gear working in this setup. I'm running stock size rear tires and the motor is just a bit warmed up.

sorry to have shot my mouth off. these are, by the numbers, 200+m.p.h. trucks:burnout: . plugged in wrong numbers. i got:

1st-45@6,000
2nd-69@6,000
3rd-95@6,000
4th-123@6,000
5th-167@6,000
6th-247@6,000
rev.-176@6,000???:dontknow:
stock set up :rock:

For those of you that are curious, the gear ratios in the '06 QC automatic are:

1st-------2.45
2nd-------1.45
3rd-------1.0
4th-------0.69
R---------2.20

1st = 50mph
2nd = 85
3rd = 124
4th = 164 @ 5500 rpm

Well, we'll know after next weekend what the speeds are in 5th at 6000 RPM if it holds to form and I hit Redline at one mile. Hope its over 164MPH!

good luck BN

Well, we found out tonight on the Dyno at Seans that the top speed is limited to 160MPH at 6000RPM in 5th gear. We will take off the limiter by the end of the week and we're going to bump the redline to 6300RPM, that should allow 168MPH in 5th. Hope so.

Hey silverback you big harry beautiful ape. How about calculations for 3.73 and 3.55 please :adore: :adore: :ridinghorse:

Well i'm not silverback but, i found a site and did some homework.
Here's what i got:

3.55
1st 59
2nd 89
3rd 122
4th 158
5th 214
6th 317

3.73
1st 56
2nd 84
3rd 116
4th 151
5th 204
6th 302

3.91
1st 54
2nd 81
3rd 110
4th 144
5th 194
6th 288

Looks as though a LOT of power would be needed to pull through 5th and 6th with these ratios.

04 rc has 4.11 correct?? What would be a better gear for street play? 4.56 or 4.88

Definately 4.88's

just a comparison...a stock GenIII viper has a 3.07 which is the equivalent of in between a 3.55-3.73 in our trucks. thats how much the weight and big rims hinder us.

your QC has 4.56 changing to 4.10 would drop highway rpm some. not sure how much! maybe 300 rpm in high gear. easy swap . going taller yet, like 3.91 ,would require a carrier change as well.
