quick question....

Faster burning fuel will induce detonation and promote preignition. A high octane fuel burns slower than a lower octane fuel. It's physics, nothing personal. I know what I'm talking about and Caveman is correct.

I run race fuel when I spray at the drag strip and I have the fastest daily driver on the d
forum.

Nothing personal taken. I don't mind learning something new if I can digest it:D I just need to learn some more about the subject apparently. I've always misunderstood? :dontknow:

I always thought if it was not tuned, you really see much at all.

My buddy has street tune & race gas tune.

Cool Fatjack. To make max power an engine needs to be right up close to the edge of detonation. What ever the engine combo is will determine the required octane to do that and if you're octane is slightly lower than required to do that the engine will detonate. This is because the fuel is burning too fast which results in a second flame front being created during the combustion cycle due to compression ignition. On the other side of that coin when an engine is burning fuel with a higher than required octane there is a power lose because the fuel is burning slower and cylinder pressure suffers.

Hi, your buddies race tune has a more aggressive timing curve (more timing) which requires the slower burning higher octane fuel. :D

some of them guys see a 100 + HP difference between race gas and 93 tunes. it's crazy man.

he is running this on a srt jeep, runs in the 10's daily driver all day long. :D:D:D:D:D:D

His other friend just hit like 9.55 or something also DD.

Hi Venomous1, you're character is one:rock: of high quality!

My other friend has a evo, he has a meth sprayer, but started to use denatured alcohol. said he has seen 30 more HP from using that.

I know that is like 190 or so proof. how does that factor into octane ?

I've been using acetone as a fuel additive for years now.(2 fluid oz. per 10 gallons) engine runs really smooth. (only 100% pure acetone)

toluene is the nuts of gasoline!! race gas should run faster. the knock sensor will adapt with more timing ,which will build more cylinder pressure without detonation. power will increase with the first couple of runs.

Liking the way u think

I'm tuned only point I'm making is look at the diff between 87 to 93. So a jump to 110 should be noticeable ..it's like saying you have to be tuned for nitrous....

The jump to a 110 octane fuel will result in a very noticable increase in power as long as....there has also been an increase in compression (dynamic and static) and volumeric efficiency (more air and fuel in the combustion chamber during the compresion cycle). The higher octane fuel (which burns slightly slower) allows you to compress a larger A/F charge to a higher pressure without detonation resulting in more hp.

Methanol and denatured alcohol both have significantly higher octane (resistance to detonation) than pump gas if they are not over diluted with water. 190 proof is 95% pure alcohol and 5% water. Methanol is usually 200 proof (100% alcohol). The small quantity of water in your friends denatured alcohol would provide just :Dslightly more resistance to detonation IMO.

I used it for several months and never saw a difference in performance or MPG.

well that sucks, I was looking forward to your results

Think of doing it and my mechanic said, looking forward to some expensive repairs, so I did not do this, he said, race fuel and octane booster, is harmful to our truck...
