Has anyone had luck with a local muffler shop building a cat-back instead of purchasing a magnaflow or borla? Local shop says he can build one with muffler of choice for a lot less...does that sound right?

I'm sure they can do it cheaper, see if they have pictures of previous installs they have done and what the quality looks like.

problem is finding the right mufflers. most generic mufflers i just dont think sound right the kits are more tuned to the engine i personally like the way the corsa's sound on a viper been looking at doing something like that for truck or bb's are nice also but you cant buy just the mufflers

X2 I would love to put Corsas on the truck, but just the mufflers are so damn expensive.

yeah most shops can build one for you and might be like $200.00 cheaper than a magnaflow cat back. just depends on the muffler you get.

Well he said he could use magnaflows...I'm assuming they would be the same mufflers that come in the kit?

they have a couple differed ones but should be all close to the same compared to the catback kit you can buy

I would avoid magnaflows in general. Several guys have had issues here with their catback kits and I have friends that had similar issues with the individual mufflers as well.
If you want a similar sound comparable to magnaflow, Dynomax ultra flo's and borla could be an option.

Yea corsa sounds awesome... ive always been looking for something that sounded like a typical v8.

these trucks will never sound like a v8 i just love the sound from the corsa on the viper cars. but only way to get the mufflers is to buy the entire kit which i might just have to do and then modify down the road.

I tried and tried till I found the perfect sound. Flow master original 40s or MAC chambered sound great to me. Many others reveal the pop/rasp the 10 makes.
By all means use a muffler shop and support your local smAll business bro.:rock:

Id just go with a kit, spend a little more and have things done right, I've had bad luck with muffler shops and their own custom made/bent exhaust

My magnafolw kit sound good and Ive had no problems with it I got mine on ebay for 409 bucks get the kit and remove the rear cats at the Same time and you will be happy

Time & beer. tried 3 different sets of mufflers before I liked the sound.

I swapped mine out for flow master 50 cause magnaflow wasn't loud enough

Yeah it's louder than the magnaflow but I'm still wanting more. I think I'm going to do cut outs on mine so I can have best of both worlds
