Hey all, I want to just introduce myself, and then I'll figure out the best place to post a few questions and see what kind of answers I get!

My name is James, I'm a TV/Digital Media major at Montclair State University, and I work in a computer shop.

Now that that's all done with, I'll admit a deep dark secret of mine, I'm not HUGE mopar fan. That said, I drive a 2004 Neon, and I know my way around the car, and do some of the work myself, when I have the time and tools (I'm sure that's a universal here).

Despite all that, I'm really really really itching for a Magnum as my next car (which I will be purchasing despite the answers to questions I'll ask in a little bit) because I just love it (I like wagons).

I enjoy the power of big engines. Anything is a wonderful change from the 2.0L banger in the Neon. I'd be happy with a V8, but then I drove a V12 and it was all over for me. I'm hoping a V10 will be a comfortable middle ground.

Anyway, off to ask some questions where it's more relevant!
 
The srt8 magnum is hard to find sometimes. I've looked on autotrader from time to time and sometimes there aren't hardly any near me.
 
Simply for insurance purposes, I'm not looking for the SRT8. Yes, I'm aware of the 392, I see a ton of 392 and other Hemi challengers/chargers on a weekly basis, as well as a few vipers, etc etc.

It's also still an automatic, and in the end, I'm getting the cheapest model Magnum that I really want. I'd rather insure an SXT than the SRT8.

I want something different...

PS. Did you drive the Magnum SXT yet? It's slower than the Neon you have right now. And its only got a V6 with 250hp in a 4400lb wagon. What 392 Magnum? The SRT8 is a 6.1L, not a 6.4L in the new Charger/Challenger/Jeep. Go with the SRT10, faster than the SRT4 in the 1/4 as well.

I hate my Neon, I have absolutely no intention of keeping it when I move out. I don't exactly have a great relationship with my father, and it's his car. The thing is a damn lemon. I'm not concerned with the speed of the magnum, because I'm not buying it to beat the Neon, it's the car that I want, and the price range is good. When I move out, it'll be easy for me to buy and own outright, and from everyone I've spoken to about it, it's reliable.

I've thought about a stage 3 SRT4 swap for the neon to make a sleeper, but I still hate the car. I've put more money into it than it's worth, and it's still a lemon.

Also, I'm very specifically looking to go for a 3.5L RWD Magnum, it's just what I want. You're all driving SRT10 trucks, I'm sure you're driving them because it's what you want, not because gas is cheap.

Also, when I move out, it's very likely I'll have a V12 merc under collectors insurance in storage for summer cruise nights. I'm quite familiar with big power, and the stock magnum will be a DD until I can sort out an engine swap for it. If I could afford the CTS-V Wagon, I'd just jump on that with a good supercharger and call it a day, unfortunately, I don't have that kind of big money.

What the ............... Wait, you live @ home and drive your dad's base model Neon but your sure it's very likely that you'll have a V12 Mercedes in storage for summer cruise nights.

My dad is the kind of person that doesn't believe anyone has "friends" and the only thing that rules his world is money. He has 3 daughters and 1 son, and if you asked him today, he'd tell you he only had 2 daughters. I've been saving up for a while so I can get the hell out of that house, so I have plenty of nest-egg funds to get the magnum as a DD and the merc for a summer cruiser, and support myself with my current job for a few years while I figure the rest out. My dad views everyone under the same roof as himself as just an expense. Quality time was day trips to a museum a few hours away, but we had to be very quiet in the car otherwise it was distracting. I get told I'm not good enough on a regular basis. This isn't some personal thing, I'm just ready to get out of the house and let him be perfect in his own little world. The last person in the world who should be saying all that stuff to me is the first one that does.

The merc isn't my dad's, but I work for the owner, and he's looking to sell it in the next year or so. I know the value of the car, and I'm willing to make him an offer when I graduate college. My girlfriend loves it, and I'm willing to buy it and put it on a collectors title (the first owner did this when it was new). I've taken it on vacation a couple times with my girlfriend, and it's a wonderful car to drive. I drive the merc most weekends to a saturday cruise night and have a key for it at home. All I need to do is ask if it's being used, and typically the answer is no.

The magnum will be my daily driver, and the conversion I'm looking to do is for when I slowly get all the parts together, and figure out whether it can be done.

Aright Skippy, since your are new, I'll help you out. I mean after all, why else do people post on the VTCoA, if it isn't to get help? :D First of all, if you are over 18 years old and still living with your parents, GET OUT. You don't need to live with them through college, or "save up". Get out. You are a grown man, and unless there are extreme circumstances we are not aware of, you are acting like a child - WARD, of course. Secondly, because you are a grown man who lives with his parents, you ARE an expense, and an unreasonable one at that. Third, bet if you walked up to your dad today, shook his hand, and thanked him for all he has done for you, then immediately moved out of his house, and never asked him to fund your lifestyle again, he would probably show you a lot more respect.

I'm not whining, nor have I asked my dad for money.

I suppose I'll just go elsewhere with my questions because clearly you're all too high and mighty about everything.

I'm telling you my situation, which is a whole lot more complicated than I need to justify to a computer screen, but oh well. You've got big pickup trucks that barely see a few hundred pounds a year in the bed. Who am I to ask you all why you even have them.
