I just picked up my 2005 RC Saturday and I have a question about oil. The dealership claimed to have changed the oil but for some reason I really don't believe them. Since I am unsure I want to change the oil this coming week. My idle pressure right now is around 25 psi and around 50 to 60 while driving. I have read that the idle pressure seems normal but it seems kind of low to me. With that said what oil do you guys recommend? I am in Texas so hot summers and not too cold winters. I am thinking about 15W-50 like others have mentioned to help my pressure. Are there any side effects of running this oil versus the 0W-40 it says to run. BTW my truck has 19000 miles on it.

First, welcome from down in Academy, my truck never drops below 45ish. But from reading the other thread appearently 10psi is acceptable, what is it while you're driving on the highway? I've always ran 10-30 in mine and never had a problem.

Welcome!
15/50 here in south Texas...it will also quiet the valvetrain chatter:D

Nice to see another 10 in town bro! I'm in Hewitt daily do you've bound to have seen my Black QC? Welcome to the fastest and most informative forum dedicated to the Viper Truck:burnout:
Holler at me and we'll meet up soon. :bandit:
15/50 Mobil is the ticket

Let me add, MOPAR filter only. 090 at Wal-Mart or the Viper filter from the dealer. Otherwise you WILL blow the filter and have a mess on your hands and possibly be stranded. I have blown 2 and it ain't no fun.

Run the white Viper oil filter from the dealer and 15-50 is fine....

I didn't have one blow ...but the first time I changed my oil, I used a fram filter and it made a humming sound... I have only used the Mopar Viper filter sense , and have not had any issue ..

Your Scott right? I think I remember you from the old PD days about 4 years ago. You had the black TA then bought a black C5. I had the black C5 Z06 with black CCW classics.

I mainly wanted to make sure there would not be any ill effect over time with 15W-50. Thanks!

Yessir I remember that ZO6, it sounded great!
Man I produce all kinda goodies for our beasts. We need to get together and check out your ride. Congrats on joining the RBC:rock:

I run 0-40 with a K&N filter. Come this spring I'm gonna try 15-50 and see what all of the hulabalu is about. I love valve train noise but the is it suppose to sound like that question gets old.

I've run 0-40 since new and now have 140K. Phx gets a bit warmer than most places. So much mis-understanding on what those numbers actually mean. Best advice is to read your owners manual and follow its recommendations.

What kind of engine and oil temps do your truck run at? Mine coolant temp is at 200 around town and 185 at speed and when at idle my oil pressure is 25. Pressure at speed is 50 to 60. This is with what I assume is 0w-40.

Yep. I had the humming with a couple different brands. Switched back to the Viper filter and have not had any problems.

I'm a 0w40 Mobil 1 user.

Just did a 0-40 mobile oil change with viper filter for winter temps and at temp pressure is around 60(oil and engine temps hover around 170-180) is summer with 15-50 it holds 70+psi hot........temps around 180 or so, I do have a 170* stat and a tune that has the fan come on sooner on low speed which helps a bunch.

I switched from Mobil 0-40 to Royal Purple 5-40 and I only use the Viper oil filter. Each Guy likes there own brand of oil & filter.:burnout:
