As I am a newb to the world of the 8.3 V10 I am fascinated by the build ups and technology put into this engine. I'm also interested in it's flaws and what has been done to correct the flaws. I back tracked on this board and found a lot of very interesting and fascinating info, but some of it is a few years old, so I wanted to start a thread where I could ask questions and get me some learnin'. So, my first question is if a solution was ever achieved to cure the problem of the oiling for the #3 connecting rod, besides a dry sump oiling set up.

Thx,

WW

Yes, never put an STS Turbo on an SRT-10

Pull the cats! Then use good quality oil with lots of ZDDP. Limit stock engines to 5500 rpm. The crankshaft is heavy and unforgiving to the cheap pistons. My 2 cents

OOOpps, been revving mine over 6000 for a while?????????????

Never heard that before, good to know......

Never heard of any of this stuff, WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So high zinc oil is better for it too??????? For a monster truck it sure has a lot of flaws, here I am think all was good...........

Awesome info! Thx, boss!

Well, I have to run cats here in NJ, but thanks for the other info. :top:

Here is what I've learned. After I bought my truck I found a bag with a broken valve spring and a bent pushrod under my seat. Shortly after my motor dropped a valve and broke a piston. The moral to my story is I would upgrade the pushrods and valve springs

Just depends on the truck I suppose, trainman and I haven't had one bit of trouble out of ours. And I'd wager we have more passes at the track than most. Mine has been taking a 200 shot with no problems so far

There are trucks built on Mondays and trucks that aren't

The only big ticket item that has gone on mine is the flywheel. It waited until I was 100+ miles away from home to blow. Thank GOD for extended warranties.

Who makes good pushrods and valve springs for our trucks?

I can get all that stuff for you, the stock pushrods are pretty awful in these. Its $625 for pushrods/locators/valve springs/valve seals, and you are ready for a cam then as well.
