I know it's not big enough but the Seadoo jet boats are a blast! The Sportster is my fav almost bot one but the cons outweighed the pros

a mid cabin sounds perfect for what you want... but i don't believe a single engine boat that size will do everything you want... that same size with twin 496's at the minimum to pick up two skiers...

Everything is weight just like our trucks. Boats can be overloaded like anything else. My one customer is a top boat wrench. He would say "the sticker reads 5 people OR 1,500 pounds not BOTH! Then complain the boat won't get up on plane!" The engine may pull 2 skiers but not after filling the boat with people, vests, coolers, ice, fuel, anchor & so on.
which further accentuates my point...
you need to find a boat that can get on plane QUICK with 500# 20' off the back...
there's a reason people buy dedicated ski boats... which can comfortably seat 10 and gear... but you don't get a shower, shitter, and sink, either...
you may have to compromise here... but there isn't anything in between, so you're best bet would be to compare a full size wakeboard boat to your mid cabins and see what's closest... (check time to plane, speed to plane, etc.)
If you have enough power with the right gears and props you can get anything on plane fast. Don't buy one with a small motor, I have had lots of boats last one was a fountain with two supercharged 502s. It didn't care how much weight was on board. Don't buy one too small. if you want to ski with lots of people on board go big or stay home. Ski and wake board boats are only good for one purpose.

If your looking to ski, most ski boats have a specialized hulls that planes much faster than anything else. They will be able to handle weight and still pull up the skier's etc... with in normal limits. They will tend to have much slower top speeds and ride rough on choppy water. An inboard ski boat can be difficult to maneuver around the dock compared to an I/O.
Runabouts and other I/O's have different types of hulls based on the fact they are I/O's they tend to plane at higher speeds and can make skiing difficult to hold steady speeds since they are not completely planing. They will have a higher top end than a ski boat and tend to handle rough water better.
I get asked all the time about my wakeboat. "Man I bet that is fast" Yep does about 30
It will also tow 2 riders like there is nothing back there along with 3,000lbs of ballast. It will run out of freeboard before it runs out of towing ability.

I'm certain that I don't want a dedicated ski boat. I want to be able to pull skiers, but I want something that has more wow factor on the trailer, is comfortable in windy weather/rough water, and has enough of a cabin that we can get out of the sun/weather.
