Seen a few Gen 4 and a Gen 5 dynoed today .All were mostly stock ,a few exhaust and intake mods .
All I can say I was not really impressed with Hp to TQ ratio on them .My OLD Truck has better numbers ,Yes I know weight to hp yadayada yada ,
but to see a 100,000k viper with minor mods almost brand new only peek 460 tq with CAI and exhaust seems low to me .And the rest were close to that or a tad lower .Average HP was 520 to 530 . All though the max rpm on them were around 6200 to 6300 .Most had 60 to 80 more HP than TQ .:dontknow:
 
A dyno is a tuning tool, the numbers they produce are relative to the current conditions. Comparisons across time, locations, different vehicles, and different dyno's aren't relavent.

Even simple things like how the operator straps the vehicle down can have a pretty significant effect on the numbers.

I agree 100%!!!! I've seen guys make way more horsepower with a dyno jet and way less horsepower on a mustang dyno. Weather conditions and the way the vehicle is strapped down is key.

Two different dynos and how they operate. A dynojet is simply spinning the roller and based on how fast it spins it up. A Mustang Dyno replicates the load of your vehicle on the road and therefore reads more realistic numbers and usually around 7% lower than a Dynojet.
As states both are tuning aids only and used to safely see what A/F and timing is doing in a controlled environment rather than a track or street.
 
I had torrie dyno tune my truck there over a year ago and the numbers on mine were within 2 hp and 3 tq.
Torrie was the one doing the dynos runs himself .And all the gen4 were close in numbers on a stock motor .Also the numbers were real close to the one the guy who installed the gen4 heads and intake on his gen 3.hp numbers were 40 to 50 higher than the tq numbers were .
I know how much you hate on dynos and I am not stupid.I already know how they can vary because on operator.
And I would have put it up to that if all 6 or 7 gen4 were dynoing with different numbers.
 
I think what James is pointing out here is the fact that the Gen IV cars were putting out far less torque in relation to their horsepower output as compared to our Gen III engines. A difference of 60-80 below what they make in horsepower. Although the Gen IV's probably make their peak torque at a higher rpm and hold a larger advantage from about 4200 rpm and up. I remember the thread on WA 2 Fst when he did the Gen IV conversion and although he didn't gain torque (but 70 rwhp) the truck made a lot more torque from 4200 rpm and up. My engine build is getting close to completion and I will be curious to see the results. My stock Gen III engine made 485.68 rwhp and 515.06 rwtq on the dyno at A&C Performance with the 91 octane street tune. We have really tried to make this NA build the ultimate, and I was concerned about drivability because of the incredible flow numbers achieved by Greg Good on the Gen IV heads ( 330 cfm stock vs 427.5 cfm ported), but Greg assured me not to worry. More updates coming. Final assembly should start in a couple of weeks. Block is being machined for the cam bearings (roller). Rods are in (Oliver ultra-lites), pistons coming, 4.25 stroke crankshaft is in.
 
Jerry said it well.Thier peak was at around 5900 to 6100. My gen 3 in the mid range was way higher.From about 4000 rpm to 5500 rpm mine spanked their ass and I was higher over all. Mind you mine is not stock but at about $70000 cheaper I would take mine anyday.It even pissed off 2 guys there that kind of snubbed me when I was only truck who showed up.

They were standing there with their mouth open when they seen I put down 595 TQ NA and none of them were over 460 to 480 max TQ.
 
Give the GenIV a Roe cam and Free up the exhaust and they should also put down 600 torque. Gen IV's are GenIII's with striker heads.
 
I wonder how much marketing plays into the design or the Gen IV engine. With HP numbers being the big selling point on manufactured performance cars I wonder if the engine is not designed/tuned for bigger HP numbers at the expense of torque. The heads do flow a ton better than precious designs so the enlarged ports could be the reason for the lower torque. Did Torrie comment on this while he was doing the dyno tests?
 
Always put the gen in the rear as the nose always points towards the wind. That being said, have a good CO monitor
