I usually have my under hood lamp un plugged because of when I work on my truck. But the other day I go to plug it in and nothing. I check the bulb it’s good, so I replace it and still nothing. I take it apart and looks really out dated(05). I do a little search and Dorman has a new updated/improved. You can see the updates inside, Dorman part # 68203. Really nice to have it working now and now we have options. Plan is to add/solder in an led, I’ll keep you guys posted.

Looks like you hard wired the bulb?

So I'm assuming the whole unit gets thrown out if the bulb dies again?

i would assume so, unless you solder in another bulb in. I never replaced the bulb on the original one, since I mostly had it disconnected. Not bad for getting 17yrs out of it, Dorman part was like $15.

I found an LED to go in there, haven't had any issues yet. They probably soldered it just because of the force of closing the hood is enough to dislodge it as the contact points age and lose their springiness.
