What is that shock called on top of the rear??

I wanted to buy a new one cause the truck has over 50,000 on it now and was going to replace shocks and lots of other parts like bushings.

I went to autozone and they could not even find what I was looking for.

Put ya a set of Cal-Tracs on it and you can pitch that shock in the garbage.

Ok so when you put cal-tracs on it you can delete that top shock ???

I plan on getting them soon.

Roger that. That thing is supposed to dampen wheel hop. You won't have that problem with the caltracs.

Cal-tracs are great if you are going to the track. But on the street I never did get any wheel hop.

Bill.

Stabilizes the entire rear end. Will help keep the truck from jumping sideways even on the street. Helps with straight line braking and no more wheel hop. One of the best mods you can do to your truck.

Cal-Tracks vs. Slappers

I can appreciate the performance of the Cal-Tracks. However, I have a few questions re; the stock slappers.

The original question in this thread was about a replacement lateral shock. Has anyone replaced it yet? If so, where did you obtain it?

Also, Stinker commented to me that replaceing the stock bushings and bumpers on the rear leaf / slappers with poly will tighten up the rear end. Has anyone done this and noticed an improvement at the track?

Street traction and ride are very good in my RC. However, when I took it to the track for the first time and dropped the tire pressure to 22 lbs., it was very violent during the gear shifts as it scratched for traction:burnout:.

My objective is to keep it simple, use the stock engineering with some tweeks and not alter the excellent overall stock looks of the truck.

Cheers!

yep. i installed one of Stinkers first sets of poly bushins. the traction difference was enough that i had to raise the r.p.m. 3 to 400+ so she would not bog on me.

this was with the Cal-Tracs all ready installed & Stinker's front poly bushins installed also.

the way Tony explained it was it tightens up the assend & the front bushins aid in weight transfer.

all i know is it works & works well:rock::rock::rock::rock::rock:

I only replaced the sway bar bushings with the urethane ones but it helped in handling a LOT ! I can only imagine how much better to replace them all.

The Cal-Tracs also help on the road if you like to drive fast through curves.Seems to come out of the corners better.I have not heard that you can delete the 5th shock with Cal-Tracs. AutoZone is the WORST place to get parts for these trucks.Stock slapper bars look cool for a factory option, but cal-Tracs work all the time (and work better),not just under hard launches

Yeah I just placed a order for front&rear sway bar bushings along with some front end bushings, this is my start intill after christmas when i order the cal-tracs

Good start ! I much prefer running hard thru the twisties to drag racing (prob cuz I suck at drag racing  ) so the bushings were a great improvement.

I miss having my truck !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(
