OK, all repairs have been completed and I have been driving the truck with no issues for a couple of weeks. A small crack in the head was welded closed fixing the coolant leak. The crack was behind the exhaust manifold which was why I struggled to find it. New parts installed: head gaskets, head...
I used the Axxess CHTO-01 to install an Alpine head unit in my truck. This wires the aftermarket radio amplifier to the trucks stock amplifiers. I have noticed this does not come up on the Axxess website in a search for our trucks (it does if you type in the model number) and may be...
Turns out there was still some former front cat material in the drivers side pipe blocking the rear cat. After clearing it out the truck is running tremendously better now. It also stopped pushing oil out of the fill cap as well. Now to put some miles on it.
I use a Bluetooth dongle with the Torque app on my cellphone. Unfortunately I have to have the expensive one ($100+) to communicate with my JDM engine (gen4 3sgte) swapped MR2. The cheapies just wont communicate with that ECU. This dongle got wet in hurricane Harvey but worked for at least...
I did check the harness. Its in good condition. Did a leak down today. It was lower than I hoped but the engine was cold. They were consistent on all cylinders though. Had to turn the truck around in the garage so I replaced the one fouled plug and it ran OK but still not right. Hopefully I can...
Well today was a fiasco. Pulling the O2 sensor didn't help. I noticed the truck was back down to 3500 RPM and decided to pull the plugs again. The second plug on the drivers side (#3 in the firing order) was already starting to get dark. This is with less than 30 minutes of run time. The other 4...
OK. fresh plugs and it will rev to 4200ish. Its still way down on power though it definitely is making more. I pulled the rear O2 sensor on the drivers side. Not the sound I expected. Instead of sounding like an exhaust leak it was more of a leaking air hose sound, I'm staying away from the...
I was hoping for more but between a suspect gauge, not being able to compare numbers from other cylinders (especially from the other bank) and possibly a restricted exhaust there's no telling. I'm eyeing cat-less mid-pipes if it turns out to be the rear convertor or an x-pipe and muffler delete...
I have a separate thread for the head issues: http://www.vtcoa.com/forums/f7/crack-68710/ with pictures showing the crack and work done. I never had coolant mix with oil or vice versa. It just used a lot of coolant and I could never find a leak either in the cooling system or compression/leak...
I compression tested #1 at 110 PSI (cold) but then my gauge quit holding pressure. Gonna have to see if its still under warranty. I bought a fresh set of plugs and put them in but I ran the battery low while compression testing. I have it on charge so it should be ready by the time I get home...
Ok, pulled the plugs to do a compression test and found this. All of these were installed new with the head gaskets. All of the dark ones are from the drivers side, all of the light from passenger. There is maybe 30 minutes to an hour of runtime on the whole set. Compression test will have to...
I can check and see if A/Z still tests coils but I kind of doubt 2 separate sets of coils are having the same issue internally. I tried taking it on a short trip around the block to see if it would "relearn" something in drivability but the truck is soooo gutless. I have a small hump at the...
