My RAM recently doesn't start as quickly as it used to. In the mornings, it used to fire up in less than a second when I hit the button. Now it cranks 3-4 seconds before starting. It has a new battery and is cranking over normally, just doesn't fire up as quickly as it should. Runs fine after starting. It's an '05 will 30K miles with original wires & spark plugs. No computer codes listed either. Time for a tune up?

Is it the correct size battery? Sounds like a dead cell in your new battery honestly. Plugs for sure won't hurt, but wires are discretionary.
Is start at the battery bro

Thanks, I will get it load tested to see if that's the problem. It is an Interstate 85 month battery. 850 CCAmps and only about 6 months old. Alternator is good, comes up to 14+ volts after it is running.

Yeah at 6 months a battery can get a bad cell. I've had one that cranked slow for a year before I broke down and bought a new one. What a difference!!
Batteries tend to fail during climate changes. From cold to hot and hot to cold will usually stress the battery. Look for bulged sides. Telltale sign.

i had a jeep with the same symptoms, if it sat for 6 hours or more it would crank longer before it started and it turned out to be the fuel pump

Sounds like your fuel pump is slow to build pressure. Load test the battery to make sure its ok and then hook a fuel pressure gauge up and check it after it sits overnight.

OK, found it is not the battery. It's a fuel system problem. Took the truck out for a drive today and after stopping, I smelled fuel. Crawled under and found fuel leaking down both sides of the fuel tank. Not sure where it is coming from but clearly have a fuel delivery problem.

uuuuuh if you have a fuel leak i would disconnect battery and not run that thing untill you figure out where the leak is. Thats a fire waiting to happen.....

Hey guys, looking for a little guidance for the same problem. Have not notice any fuel leakage. Currently have 66k on the 10.

I noticed the same thing the other day and figured I'd change the battery out first since it was from '13. Replaced with a new diehard gold. It runs great and reads at 14V or just below upon start up. Just in the morning it cranks 3-5 times and finally goes, after that it starts right up.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

A bad crank sensor was leading mine to take 2-3 rotations to start.

I'd say fuel pressure issue. Try to key on, let sit for a few seconds, key off, key back on and wait for a few seconds, key off, key back on for a few seconds and then try to start. if it fires right away its a fuel pressure issue.

Update: I tried this morning with the fuel pressure idea and same result. Five minutes driving down the road got a "check gauges" light went right off. Went to grab lunch and no light but when I left at the end of the day the check gauges light went off again after bout 5 minutes.

Any further input on this will be a big help, thanks!

Update: Have not had the chance to pull any codes since I do not have a hand held and had a busy weekend. No CEL light either.

New development today though. Was leaving work and my oil pressure gauge would drop to almost 0 and then float back up to 25 while stopped at lights. Stayed at about 50psi when driving. Got home and let it sit for 5-10 mins and idle but hung out at 25 and did not drop.

Thoughts?:dontknow:

Put a oil pressure gauge on it. Sounds a little low.
Check the oil level lately?

Checked the oil last night and it looked low, should have checked first before posting. Put a quart in last night after checking. Checked this morning and the level looked good, drove fine too, no low pressure readings!

Still dont know whats up with the slow to crank, going to order the crank sensor and try that seems like a quick change. Any other advise in the interm is always appeciated!

Put a fuel pressure gauge on it just to be sure it's not a pressure problem. New plugs would not hurt.
