So last night I noticed my alignment was off and pulled over to see what was going on... My tire was noticeably low, and drove to nearest gas station to fill er up. So I got the truck home and checked out later on last night and it wasn't noticeably low. However this morning it was low again. I used an air compressor to fill it again and get to a tire repair shop.

Before I left I called a few friends to see what they have done in the past with similar situations. One of them has had an STi for several years, the other an STi and a m3. They told me to head to Rick Johnson's if it was just for a tire repair since it was close by. (The dodge dealership is kind of far from here to be moving with a leaky tire)

My reason for posting is that after waiting, I heard the truck turn on and noticed out the window that the reverse lights were on but the truck wasn't moving. The dude forgot about the brake. As I'm running out (limping with a leg currently going through therapy) and he is revving trying to get it to move he stalls the truck pretty bad. How a mechanic forgets to disengage the parking break beats me. But I was pretty pissed to say the least. Now I'm outside and he revs mad high while letting the clutch out pretty slow which makes me even more livid. I proceed inside to tell the manager what had just happened and insist on leaving and driving the truck to dodge and have them handle it. I told him I was a valet driver for 3 years and had asked people about their cars if I had any questions about weird e-brake placements and other such things unique to given cars. I explained I would have much rather had him come inside and ask and I could have just showed him where the e-brake was than to see the truck stalled n clutch grinded away like that. The manager was extremely polite and felt terrible about the situation and I let them handle the tire problem.

Turned out there was just a small leak, no nail, gash or anything, and a simple patch did the job.

I admit I'm a new truck owner, and was weary about bringing the truck to a neighborhood shop like Rick Johnson even for a tire repair. Did I do the right thing? Or should I have just taken it a little further to the dealership and let them handle it. After seeing the moron stall the truck what would you have done? I was just paranoid about driving it a distance even though it was a small leak. Just looking for advice from some experienced owners. Thanks

it doesn't take a dealership to do a tire repair...you did the right thing....you just happened to come across an idiot..... it happens....good thing you were paying attention....I know i wouldn't have payed for the tire repair.....I would have complained about clutch wear! ha ha

ya i guess I should have complained more... they did give some bs discount. did the repair for 20 instead of 30! i thought wow awesome... but just wanted outa there.

Well I took my truck to dealer only one time . And never ever again , they have poor service up here and I could of did tire rotation and balance in other tore shop for 1/2 what they charging .
I would say you did a right thing . Some of does guys in a dealer would probably do same thing . And when it comes about srt's . When I did one service on my srt-4 shop menager took it for a " test drive" that's what did he say . I say he went to burn some rube off because I was with my buddy just in coffee shop cross a road when he smoked my tires .
So stupid thing can hapen in any shop . Including a dodge dealer .

Just the opposite down here. I would never take my truck to the dealer unless I had to.

i do a good bit of my own work...but i found a great local mechanic to do some of the stuff i don't wanna fool with (like replacing a ps pump) but my dealer is great...the guys love the truck, their 2 viper techs are the only ones that work on it...unless it's something dumb...and i have a local tire shop 5 mins. from the house that i've been doing business with for years ...

$20 is cheaper than a new tire...so...;)

yea absolutely. Definitely glad I wasn't forkin out serious coin for a new tire just yet.

some of the boys we have working @ Rj's are not the sharpest knifes in the drawer!
Depends on where you go though.Little Ricky Johnson (not so little) took great care of me down here in Naples. He owned a 10 and knew how bad as these trucks are.

I would always go to a tire dealer to fix a tire and never a car dealer. There is a lot more to proper tire repair than one would think. Car dealers are getting into selling tires because they can buy buy the cheap OE tires from the car factories at reduced prices. Little training goes into the car dealerships about tires.

good to know...

Thankfully I have a fantastic SRT-10 mechanic just up the road from me who works out a lil white garage.....one trip to the local stealership for me was one too many :)

I just had the alignment done with new tires. When I took the truck to the dealer for the inspection, he even pointed out he could tell an alignment was just done. Hope all is good.
