To change the blend door you will need to remove the dash....no I'm not kidding. A quick temp fix is to use gorilla tape to tape it to the recirculate position. I did this on mine 2 yrs ago and haven't gotten around to ripping my dash out.

Your blend door likely broke loose and fell into the fan. 3 screws hold the fan in. Take them out and unplug the fan. I bet a plastic door falls out.

Let us know how well it goes. hopefully just a pulley needed.

I've seen many complaints like this over the years. At 14 yrs old if not garage kept a lot, I would chalk it up to uv and age. Not sure if you've owned since new, but you don't know how the paint was cared for before you more than likely either.
