No, you wouldn't have seen it on the ground. It doesn't blow a full chunk of the block out, it splits it and most of the time you just see a wide crack protruding out..
Don't get me wrong if you do it right you can have a full window but normally it's not that exciting..
Stay away from the 15 50 in Washington. It's not hot enough until mid summer out there. Even then it's still to low of an ambient temp. That 15W 50 is like honey until it's about 75-80°.

If price is a factor its not the truck for you... Gas will cost you double what a performance car of similar performance would be. maintaining one correctly is not cheap. 10 quart oil changes for example. Tires arent cheap and dont last long. These trucks are over 10 years old and require parts...
