Mid 500 isn't that hard to be honest... you can do that NA on a stock bottom end....if all you want is 550ish I would do a good port/polish job, from someone like Greg Good and maybe a ported intake.......if you want more or just have the cash you can't beat strikers!

The caltracs installed will help wheel hop....as far as getting them dialed in....that only means that your adjusting them until the truck pulls straight...... not much more to it really. I think those times are pretty weak myself but as alot has said the heat does affect alot....Have you...
