1 piece QC drivehaft?

Alright, I currently have a brand new, never installed billet Suncoast tranny. The one I had sprung a leak and they replaced it with a brand new one with some upgrades since my first one. Replacement value is over $7,000 plus shipping. I am considering selling it and going another route.

Seriously considering a turbo 400 (TH400) and a gear vendors overdrive. Waiting to hear if this setup will work correctly if I leave it as an auto, in other words not a manual valve body. So here is the question... this whole setup together will be longer than the current transmission. How much I am not sure yet. Should I modify the two piece or go to a regular 1 piece driveshaft?? I will be running Stinkers rearend with 10.5 slicks, 4.88 gears, on the juice should be around 1000rwhp. Am I going to pretzel the driveshaft? I know I can get one built that will take the abuse but the way I know to do that is HEAVY.

Any thoughts guys??

Do it - the truck is already heavy it won't make that much difference :dontknow:

I say GO FOR IT! :rock:

Although, a TH400 w/ Overdrive would most likely require you to modify the driveline tunnel. :dontknow: You could have a custom (carbon fiber)driveshaft made and go from there. :) Chevy guys do it all the time (mod the tunnel), I don't see why we can't. :dontknow:

Why don't you install a floor shifter, like in Stinkers QC, and use a manual valve body? :confused: I think that would be cool as hell! :rock: :burnout:
 
If you are getting a Gear Venders under/over drive, then you will need a new driveshaft anyhow (probably telling you the obvious). Might as well cut a one piece since the GV will shorten the length about a foot. I've seen one pieces even without the GV due to drop kits and wrong pinion angles. The one at Roe was 10 bls less than stock.
 
I figured carbon fiber would be an option, guess I'll have to figure out what that will cost... could be scary.

Don't think the tunnel will be a problem, they have the room in the tunnel for the transfer case in the 4x4 models, same floor and tunnel. The transfer case is huge compared to a gear vendors.

I don't want to go with a manual valve body because of a couple reasons. They are not as much fun as you think, jerk pretty hard during shifts at part throttle. Also about the only way to jam through the gears on the track is to have a ratchet shifter, a regular shifter just doesn't have enough feel, and no gates to stop you from pulling all the way to third and skipping second. Art Car is one exception to this but would be UGLY in this application. If knows anything I don't I'd love to hear it.

Sounds like a 1 piece isn't that difficult to make survive. I'll look into what a custom carbon fiber would cost. Anyone know a custom driveshaft builder I can talk to that uses material other than carbon? Like to have a comparison.

i have tried 3 times to get a one piece driveshaft....

everytime the vendor says the same thing.....why?.....

The owner of Unitrax came out and looked at my 2 piece while it was out of the truck....told him about the 400 shot.....he said I couldn't hurt the stocker if I tried....said the thing is strong as hell..........:dontknow:

Same basic shaft that the diesel boys are running 1300+ lb/ft of torque through. It's not going to fail.

exactly, I do hve a company over here in statesville I think that can make anyon anythingyou want,, but guys STAY AWAY FROM CARBON FIBER!!!

IT WILL CHIP AND SHATTER EASILY, IT IS BEST LEFT FOR RACING

Suncoast told me the same thing. No need to replace unless lowering or adding a GV unit.

Well since I'm changing to a TH400 and gear vendors my overall tranny length will be greater so I don't know if the length difference will be too great to modify the two piece or not. Guess I won't know for sure until I do it. But I agree, no reason to change it except for what I'm considering.
