170* Thermostat Overheating Problem

Supposedly you can put it in a pan of water on the stove and turn the heat up, when the water temp gets to 170 ish it should open. I've never tried it, but it stands to reason that it would work.

Yup, thats how you do it! Done it few times to check them heheh

If you want to check the T-Stat, I hear you can put it in boiling water to see if it opens...and how much it does.

Might work...:dontknow:

I'd say either the thermo isn't working or you got it in there backwards. I'd take it out, check in the hot water on the stove and maybe try putting the stocker back in.

My truck is doing the very exact thing. I haven't taken a look at it yet, but I think my thermo is sticking......what does everyones truck usually run??? with a paxton??? My truck usually is around 200, but it has been getting around 215-230 lately......I did have an issue with the heater hose hitting the headers and burning a hole in it, but I just bypassed the whole heater core all together. But now the damn radio is broke...checked everything. Can't even get the CD to eject....it is like it has no power what so ever...Just my luck I guess.

my truck runs at 180 in 90 degree weather...it hit 200 going up a 4000' incline in 103 degree weather at 85 mph

I'm positive its not in there backwards because this is probably the 10th t-stat I've ever changed...but the 1st on a Viper engine haha! This is getting to me so much I woke up like a 3 in the morning thinking about redoing it right then haha!

I turned on the heater, turned the temp all the way to hot yet nothing, not even warm air.....

So that means your heater core is NOT getting any flow. So, either the water pump ain't pumpin', or the Stat ain't opening.:(

OR the cooling system is still low on coolant (air pocket). Something else you can try is to jack up the drivers front of the vehicle to get the bleeder valve at a higher point and bleed it again. Also, have you tried to drive the truck yet or just let it idle? Driving will sometimes help to remove air pockets too.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!!

Thanks fellas, I opened the bleeder valve, as well as the pet cock at added coolant from the top. Once I got a steady stream outta both I closed them both and filled the radiator. Problem solved, I guess there was a crapload of air in there. Man the first test drive was awesome!!!!!!! DC Stage 2 ALL THE WAY BABY!!!!

Glad you got it fixed. I have a T-stat sitting in my room along with hi-flows, Roe muffler and tips (Thanks Phil). I think I will try soon to change the T-stat. Any advice?

I figured my truck was running to hot......I need to get it running cooler so I can take it to Boomer so he can look at it. I'm running at 200 or just over all the time. Thanks

Mine did that too. CD would just make clicking noises but wouldnt play or eject at all. Dealer replaced with a new one and a month later DC sent back my cd's which were in the player.

Have gary reset your fans via the ECU.....should be able to Fed-Ex it to him and right back....:dontknow: ....DC did this to a number of our West Coast Paxton trucks....what a difference....as you know these motors hate the heat...

Man I'm glad you got it figured out. Stuff like that makes me weary of making such mods. It's just the little stuff that seems to hinder the process the most.

I talked to Boomer the other day and he told me he thinks there may be a problem with the fan relay:dontknow: . I just don't feel comfortable driving this truck when it is running over 200 degrees. When I first picked up the truck from his shop and drove it home over 3 hrs straight; the truck never got above 180. So definetly a problem somewhere. :dontknow:

Thanks fellas, now I gotta go back out and keep driving around haha!:burnout: :burnout: :burnout: :burnout:
