170 thermostat

find the upper radiator hose, start where the hose meets the radiator, follow the hose to the other end..............
 
i think it is under the thermo housing, but i could be wrong. look next to blinker fluid reservoir
 
Like tony says ... it in the housing at the engine end of the upper rad hose!! watch out for that number 4 bolt!! difficult to get to, you might think it isn't there and break something!!! persistence and patience!!! you will need a tune if you change it, to get the high speed fan to start sooner.

1/4" drive works great:rock:
 
The high speed fan won't engage until about *225ish. Which means when you are idling around your truck will still run at just over *200ish.
 
So any benefit running one without a tune at all or not really
 
Without a tune, you can only maintain the 170ish temp. at cruising speeds.
