1959 Chevrolet Bel Air Vs. 2009 Chevrolet Malibu Crash Test

I always thought those old cars were tanks. That will make me think differently. That bel-air must have been sitting fir a while because the huge cloud you can see from the 3 crash clip.

All that detroit steel............I think there is some weather damage on the old car...........

They have done some amazing work on the safety side of things. All the crumple zones and energy absorbing features sure do the trick.

And think about that 59, seatbelts weren't used and your face would be smacking that big old plastic steering wheel or steel dash, ouch!

wow i didn't think the 59 would've folded up like that, 59 didn't have seat belts though right? i know my 56 benz dosen't

WOW, would have never guessed that outcome

Not sure if it had them or not, but you can bet that even if it did nobody used them. I remember riding in the back window of cars when I was a kid hehe. Then my Dad bought a Toronado and it was great to lay on the floor because it had front wheel drive. And I mean the front seat floor, that's where the heat blew the best in the winter hehe.

I would be willing to bet they found a old rust bucket did a movie makeover.

I agree the newer car has crumple zone bla bla but this is trying to make us believe that even though it it absorbs more energy that its still rigid enough to cut through a a car twice its size and weight .

Must of had an after market front end from china.

Hey man, I'm not that damn old heheheh. The car was a 67, that was long enough ago. Now that's not to say I don't have stories that resemble what you're suggesting LOL.

Geez, did this bring back memories...............I guess all parents at that time wanted the same thing. QUIET! Let the kids crawl all over as long as they were....................(you get the idea).... Many times I laid down in the back window and watched the world go by. Life was good. (P.S. interesting results, and NOT what I expected at all)
