2 mufflers on '05 srt-10's ??

i've noticed that there is what looks to be a second smaller muffler on my '05 exhaust...... i would think that this is to quiet the exhaust sound & has nothing to do with emissions...... is this true ? why can't i just eliminate the smaller 2nd one & improve flow ??

FastBlack srt is correct, it is the resonator which the 05/06 came with due to federal noise regulations because of the 456 gears. When I did the straight-through exhaust, I resonator is the only thing I left on. It slightly dampened the noise and helps...
