a buddy of mine is a service advisor over at the local chrysler store and he just called me to ask if i knew of any shifting problems with the manual tranny- since i own a auto. i said no, but i also said i bet i can find out so any constructive answers would be great!

Do a search on the form, you will probably find a few hundred post about the problem. X-Metal shifter solved my 2nd to 3rd shift problem.

I guess the question I have, is what does he mean by "Problem"??:dontknow:

Everyone so far is assuming that it's related to the shifter, but that may not be what he is referring to.

Shifting into third gear- not going in all the time- its only got 8k miles on it- but what he said its hard to get it into 3rd gear during normal or balz out driving.

I dont have a problem with the stock shifter,,,, I hardley ever miss third.

It's a common problem in these trucks. Some have learned to shift them but most have trouble. It's a combination of bad hydraulics and a sloppy shifter!!

The total solution:

XMetal shifter Gen IV or Gen X...Viper Slave and Master Cylinder...

By the way I now have a Gen IV shifter from XMetal with the Jedi lever that makes zero noise....Gary worked on it for me between all of your phone calls yesterday...it literally is silent now...

Just a comment...every little thing that Chris, Marty or Gary saw on my truck that was not perfect, they made perfect. I am just amazed at how they love my truck as much as I do...

X-Metal Rocks!

I shooting for 11,s with my stock shifter!!

GO MAN GO!

Trainman did a solid 11 with his truck. I think it was the stock shifter/lever (IIRC drag radials and Volant intake were the only mods). Power-shifting so smooth he got a X-mas card from Herb McCandless. :)

I've missed 3rd a few times, but only in really important or embarrassing situations. :D With 2 pro race drivers sitting next to me chanting "Floss the whip!" LOL And then in front of 20,000 spectators at Mopar Nats 2006 (went into 1st at almost 70 mph. Ouch!). See? Kinda embarrassing.

Clutch and Slave Cylinder upgrade coming. I *might* go with a Gen. IV or X shifter.....maybe. We'll see.

I'm feeling a bit nostalgic seeing a question like this again.:bebored:

I put over 30k on the stock shifter & clutch. 3rd gear wasn't a problem after I figured out where not to push. It got better after I got rid of the bushing and spun the shifter rod backwards.:p

Then I happened upon a little money, bought Boomer's GenX, and fell in line with the general opinion in this group. That thing is over the top. Changing gears has been reduced to mashing the thing back-&-forth. Even with the guided action I haven't had a problem keeping my crazy downshift habits.

If you're not having problems, the stocker is okay. No matter what, the GenX is an extreme upgrade. Even my girly-girl wife says "that thing look easy to drive"... she's so dayum cute!:p
